Dear Highlander Families,
We are now three quarters through the school year and looking forward to spring, opening windows and reducing COVID 19 restrictions. Since February vacation, we have completed five Monday PCR testing events. Out of the almost 2,000 tests completed, only 1 student tested positive. Given those results, we will discontinue the PCR testing until the Monday following April vacation. We will continue to Test to Stay for close contacts daily.
April brings nicer weather, but it also brings State Assessment. This year, more than ever, the assessments will give us crucial information about the impact of the Pandemic on student learning. This year’s assessments will be a new baseline for us to use as we remediate learning loss caused by the disruptions caused by COVID 19. Please look at the calendar to see exactly when your child’s assessments will be. High School will be taking SAT, PSAT and PSAT 9. Grades 3-8 will be taking the RICAS in reading and math. Grades 5, 8 and 11 will be taking the science assessment.
Lastly, both site visits with the Rhode Island Department of Education have concluded and the feedback was positive for both. All of the focus groups that met with RIDE also received positive feedback. We are looking forward to more information from RIDE about what the renewal recommendation will look like. As soon as we hear anything, we will share with the community.

This is just a friendly reminder that the RICAS assessment is around the corner! Please see below for testing dates so you ensure your student is present at school, and ready to take the test. This includes a good night’s rest before the test and a nutritious breakfast the morning of the test. Also, please talk to them about trying their best!
