A Note From Mr. Archer

Minnehaha Family,

Quarter 1 ended last week! Where did that go? A lot has been happening at the Minnehaha. Halloween festivities, spirit week and the PTA fall fundraiser also wrapped up last week. This week we have Just Kids Dental at school, our Veterans Day program and fall conferences. Next week is the book fair.

November is here and while the weather has been pretty nice lately the cold will arrive all too soon. Please remember to send you children with coats, hats and mittens/gloves. Add boots and snow pants when the snow arrives. We try to get children outside each day and it is important they are dressed for the weather. Once we have snow on the ground we require snow pants for children to play on the playground. If you are having difficulty getting the required winter gear please let the school office know.

We are nearing that time of year when snow days become a possibility. Remember the district notifies families regarding snow days via the instant alert system. This will be your earliest notice. We also post this information on the local news stations. The school district schedules “make up days” if we use more than 3 snow days. These snow day “make up days” are already noted on the district calendar. They are 12/16, 1/27, 2/10, 3/24, 4/14 and 5/5.

One last reminder regarding transportation. Please remember we do not allow for “occasional” travel on our buses. Meaning we transport children who ride according to a regular schedule and pick up/drop off location. We cannot adjust these for occasional childcare or to deliver students to friends or other locations. Doing anything different would create a difficulty for staff and drivers. Also please remember that late day changes to transportation are difficult for the office to communicate the changes to the teacher and drivers. Please notify the school as soon as possible if there will be changes in your child’s transportation plan that day.

Thank you once again for choosing the Minnehaha School!

Photo Information

Eric Sherman Images has created district folders on the website https://www.ericshermanimages.com/f769972343

Within the district folder is a folder tailored to each student. These are set up in a such a way that they are password protected for privacy. Each district folder has a password to gain access to it followed by another password for each student folder. The password for the Lake Superior School District folder is isd381. The password needed to access student accounts is the LUNCH ACCOUNT PIN NUMBER for that student. Each student should already know this number, but it can also be found the PARENT PORTAL under LUNCH ACCOUNTS.

Staff Spotlight - George Ilstrup - 5th Grade

Hometown and Education Background:

I am from Barrett, Minnesota. I went to the University of Minnesota Duluth and graduated with a B.A.Sc. for Integrated Elementary and Special Education.

Something Interesting:

One interesting thing about me is that I am an avid landscape photographer outside of teaching. I spend my fall and winters photographing Lake Superior, both in the water, and on the shoreline. In the spring and summer, I spend my free time chasing storms to photograph tornadoes and supercell thunderstorms.

Why I Went Into Teaching:

When I was in 6th grade, I joined a snowboarding club. I was very shy, and felt like an outsider in the snowboard club. One of my snowboard coaches noticed this and did everything in his power to make me feel welcome. He took me under his wing and made me feel like an important part of the club. The role he played made a big impact on my life and it inspired me to become a teacher to make a similar impact.

Something I Like About The School:

The community seems very invested in the school. I get the feeling that the community greatly supports the school and wants to do what they can to help kids succeed.
