HAPPY FALL SV STUDENTS AND FAMILIES!
Fall is upon us and we are in full swing with classes and activities campus for all students. We hope your students are attending our homework club support after school. Quarter 1 is slowly coming to an end and grades are due. Remember for Quarter 1, these are the final junior high grades that go on student's transcripts and count towards their credits for junior high. Please ensure that your students are working with their teachers, attending Homework Club, and checking IC regularly to ensure they are making up any missing assignments and making up any assessments.
Thanks so much for everyone's participation in our Together We Succeed fundraiser. We appreciate all you do for our families. We are so grateful for your support! We exceeded our expectations for the fundraiser allowing ASB to do more great activities for your students.
Thanks to everyone for their patience and flexibility with an alternative schedule today for the potential power issues due to the Santa Ana wind condition. Please remember that students are asked to help keep our campus clean by throwing their trash away. We are noticing a slight uptick in candy wrappers on campus, as we approach the Halloween holiday and ask that students please be mindful of disposing of all trash properly. We greatly appreciate all their assistance in these efforts, especially with the high winds.
We hope that the Navigating Junior High Success and Math Family Resource Nights have assisted you in supporting your students. We hope you had an opportunity to speak with your students about the ANGST video that all students saw that highlighted anxiety. We have heard great feedback from our students and are pleased to know this documentary provided them with great information. We plan on having further discussions with students to support their WELLNESS through our Thoughtful Thursday discussions and activities held during RELAX.
Please join us this month for Literacy Family Resource Night on Tuesday, October 15th at 6:30 pm in the library. Also, continue checking your students' IC accounts, communicate with their teachers, and reach out to counselors for any and all academic support needed to help your student SUCCEED!
The administration has held citizenship and behavioral expectation presentations with all students and we hope this information continues to guide our students in making positive choices on campus. Please remind students that we want to maintain a respectful and safe campus culture for all and they can support these efforts by minimizing the use of inappropriate language and also keeping their hands to themselves. Horseplay is not acceptable and can often lead to injury. We want everyone to stay safe. Please remember that if you or your child see something of concern, to say something NOW to an adult on campus or via the use of our text-a-tip number. This helps SV ensure that Together We Succeed!
With gratitude to you all!
Ms. Hoffman

CLASS GRADES AND CREDITS REALLY DO MATTER IN JUNIOR HIGH!
Here is a friendly reminder for all SV students and families about grades and credits:
- Each class a student takes each quarter is worth 2.5 credits
- To earn the credits, a student must pass with a grade of a D or higher
- Students who earn an F in a class receive ZERO credits.
- Quarter grades are permanent grades on a student's transcript
- Quarter grades can be used to help place students in classes in high school (e.g. foreign language, honors, and AP classes)
LET"S DO THE MATH:
- A student that passes all of their 6 classes each quarter earns 15 credits each quarter.
- There are four quarters in a school year.
- 4 quarters X 15 credits a quarter = 60 credits in a school year
- At the end of each school year, a student passing all their classes will have earned 60 credits.
- Students passing all their classes and will be more prepared for their next year in school.
***Students that are not passing their classes in 7th grade should plan on attending summer school between 7th and 8th grade. Students may earn up to 10 credits during summer school. (Summer school is offered annually, pending funding).
SV students that earn all their credits in 7th and 8th grade qualify as PROMOTEES and move onto to high school. Students that earn under 107.5 credits are classified as non-promotees. They may "socially promote" to high school with their peers; however, they are very likely to face many academic challenges during high school.
WE WANT ALL SV STUDENTS TO PROMOTE TO HIGH SCHOOL with all their CREDITS SO THEY ARE MORE ACADEMICALLY PREPARED FOR SUCCESS!
Passing all your classes is POSSIBLE if STUDENTS:
Turn in all assignments
Seek assistance and extra help from teachers
Study for tests and quizzes
Complete all projects and essays
Participate in all re-takes and re-learning opportunities provided by teachers
If you need extra help:
Attend Weekly After-School Homework/Tutoring Club on Mon, Wed and Thurs
