Fix It Day: June 23, 8-10:30 am @ Fairgrounds
Showmanship Saturday: June 23, 10:45-Noon @ Fairgrounds
Be ready to show at county fair! Senior showman and adult helpers will share showmanship tips and tricks for different animal species. Pick three mini-showmanship sessions to attend, each session will last 20 minutes and participants will rotate sessions. Both large and small animal species will be available to choose from. This event will be held following fairgrounds fix it day and everyone should plan on attending!
Fairgrounds Usage
- The fairgrounds is off limits to ALL 4-H activities on Tuesdays and Thursdays for league golf.
- When exiting the fairgrounds, last vehicle out needs to shut the south gate.
Fair Book Changes
- We have added a Goat Rate of Gain class
- Nebraska 4-H Horse Show and Judging Guide (4-H 373) will be followed in conducting county level 4-H horse shows with some exceptions. The same horse may be ridden in multiple pleasure classes by the same or different riders.
- The state fair cooking and canning divisions have drastically changed, please refer to updated fair book.
Quality Assurance: Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA)
The program costs $12 per youth, the 4-H Foundation will be purchasing a coupon code to cover the whole cost of the class. Contact the Extension Office for the code.

Scrapies Tag
- If you currently have Scrapies Tags, please tag all animals yourself before June 6 (for market animals) or June 15 (for feeder, breeding, and dairy animals).
- If you do not have Scrapies Tags, before you can order them you must have a premise ID number and a Flock ID number, which the Nebraska Department of Agriculture can assign to you. Scrapie Tags may either be the metal tags provided by the Department of Agriculture or you may purchase tags from Allflex. Nebraska Department of Agriculture 402-434-2300.

Summer Workshops
Registration deadline for ALL workshops is June 6. This will allow Karly time to purchase all supplies and prep all workshops as she will have limited time in the office due to being short staffed.
Clover Kid Workshops (Registration)
Barnyard Explores
June 11, 4:30-5:30 Club House at the Fairgrounds in Pawnee City
Open to Clover Kids (5-7), Cost $3
Explore different farm animals while completing a barnyard diorama.
Making Foods for Me
June 25, 4:30-5:30 Club House at the Fairgrounds in Pawnee City
Open to Clover Kids (5-7), Cost $6
Taste your way through the different food groups while learning about healthy eating.
Decorate your Duds
July 9*, 4:30-5:30 Club House at the Fairgrounds in Pawnee City *Date wrong on flyer
Open to Clover Kids (5-7), Cost $3
Youth will decorate a shirt and bandana with markers and then drop on a mystery liquid to turn their creation into tie dyed clothing item they can model during the Clover Kids Show at the county fair. Don’t forget to send a solid white shirt for this workshop.
4-H Workshops (Registration)
Food Revue & Cookie-mania
June 18, 3:30-5:30pm Club House at the Fairgrounds in Pawnee City
Open to 4-H’er (8-18), Cost $5
Bake cookies to freeze for county fair and learn about meal planning/table setting to prepare for the Food Revue Contest scheduled for July 16. Project eligible for fair in Cooking 101 & 202.
3-D Printing
June 20, 10am-Noon Pawnee City School
Open to 4-H’er (8-18), Cost $5
Learn about how a 3-D printer works and create the code to print a model. As the printing process takes time, models will be printed after the workshop and families will be notified when they are ready to be picked up. Project eligible for fair in Computers.
Entomology
June 27, 1-3pm Club House at the Fairgrounds in Pawnee City
Open to 4-H’er (8-18), Cost $35
Explore the world of insects and learn how to correctly collect, identify, and display insects. Participants will received a large bug box, net, and mounting supplies. Project eligible for fair in Entomology.
#BeKind
June 27, 5-6pm Pawnee City Public Library
Open to 4-H’er (8-18), Cost $5
“When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.” – Dr Wayne W. Dyer. Create your own precept on a chalk board wall haning inspired by the book and movie Wonder. After the workshop, stay and watch the movie during the library’s movie night. Project eligible for fair in Design Decisions.
Capture the Moment
July 6, 1:30-3pm Pawnee City Public Library
Open to 4-H’er (8-18), Cost $5
Explore how changing the perspective of a picture can change the way an object looks.
Bring your own digital camera, phone, or tablet and be prepared to walk along the trail as you try to capture the perfect image. Includes mat board to mount pictures for county fair. Project eligible for fair in Photography.
Coding Fun
July 9, 10-Noon pm Pawnee City School
Open to 4-H’er (8-18), Cost $5
Come out and learn new computer coding skills as you solve puzzles and play games.
Preparing your Photographs
July 18, 5-6 pm Extension Office
Open to 4-H’er (8-18), Cost FREE
Are you new to photography? Learn how to read the fairbook and how to display your exhibits for this year.
Static Challenge
As you are planning your yard game, make sure to identify a class within the fair book.

Horticulture & Wildlife Contest
- Partnering with Johnson & Nemaha Counties. To participate, youth must register for the contest by June 1.
- Partnering with Richardson County. To participate, youth must register for the contest by June 1. Youth must have participated in at least 4 hours of training with a certified instructor before the day of the contest.

- Partnering with Otoe County. To participate, youth must have their animals ID'ed and complete an entry form by June 15.
