Winter 2 - 2021
A Message from Principal Callaghan
A new year brings the promise of new opportunities and fresh beginnings. It can also bring about changes in our lives for the better. We can agree the past year brought many challenges and was filled with uncertain times, but despite that, it is my wish for the WHS school community to use the positive light around us to plan for a brighter future. Let's put the past in its rightful place, and celebrate a joyous new year.
May your future days be filled with peace of mind, happy moments, and good health.
Happy New Year 2022,
Mr. Brian M. Callaghan
WHS Principal
District Reminder About Masking
All students and staff at Gibbons Middle School and Westborough High School will be required to fully mask while in the school building, except for designated mask breaks and while eating lunch. This period of fully masking will end on January 10, 2022. At that time, unless conditions dictate otherwise, we will return to flexible masking at the middle school and the high school.
By fully masking next week, we can reduce the circle of contact tracing from six feet to three feet, reducing the impact of being a close contact for staff and students as we head into the vacation week. Our hope is that this brief adjustment to the policy will provide some peace of mind to everyone in the week heading into the winter break
WHS Mid-Year Assessments
Please be advised of some important information regarding our mid-year assessments, scheduled for January 20, 21, 24, and 25.
Students are expected to be present each day unless exempt from a final assessment in a half-year course. The teacher will communicate with the student if they are exempt from assessment, based on their average.
We will continue with our practice of incorporating alternative learning and assessment opportunities into the exam schedule. Not all students will be given a traditional-style exam. The style of exam and expectations will be communicated by the student's teacher.
Any graded activities or assessments administered that day will be counted on the student's Quarter 2 average.
Traditionally, our mid-year exams have been worth 10 percent of the students' Year Long average. This year, they will be counted as part of the Quarter 2 grade, as a typical quarterly assessment, and will not be 10% of the student's overall final average as in the past.
We will run the same schedule as planned with 2 periods per day with each period approximately 2 hours in length. A full schedule will be shared next week.
Please note that these changes to grade weights are only in effect for this year.
