All School Letter
January 5, 2022
A COVID protocol survey was sent out on Monday. The survey will close on Friday at noon. If. you have not filled it out, please do so. Each household should only fill out the survey once, allowing for all voices to be equally represented.
This survey will be reviewed by the Chinook board to help them decide what to do with our COVID protocols. In August, the Chinook board approved the COVID-19 Addendum in our community field guide. This is the document that would be updated if changes are made.
The COVID-19 addendum is linked in the board agenda and on the Chinook website.
The reason we are looking at updating the addendum is that masking is now optional at other FNSBSD schools. The Chinook Board would like to hear from the Chinook community about their thoughts and preferences in regards to our COVID-19 protocols, which includes masking.
There is no school on January 17 & 18th. Then starting January 19th, Teal with Golden Hearts Performing Arts will be at Chinook each morning until Friday, January 28th. In small groups, all students will get at least one 50 minute session with her. Some students will participate in a final performance on the 28th at 8:30 am. If you can help set up on January 18th, or during her morning sessions, please let us know! This event is part of the Artists in Schools Program with the Fairbanks Arts Association.
A huge thank you goes out to the Rossow & Tolman families for taking care of snow removal this year. If anyone can help move the snow in front of staff parking and our mechanical door, please let us know.
Board Meeting
The first 15 minutes of each meeting are reserved for parent comments. Please review our agenda!

Keeping your child home from school due to symptoms?
Contact Kat(email or call) in the office to excuse an absence due to illness. Please let us know about any symptoms, exposure, a positive test or if your child is a close contact.
If your child is out of school due to symptoms, we will need a copy of the PCR test results for them to return (if you choose to test). PCR testing is available through the district at three different locations. You will need your child's s numbers to schedule. Use this link to schedule a test: https://www.picktime.com/FNSBSD
COVID symptoms:
- Fever/Chills
- Cough
- Fatigue
- Muscle/Body aches
- Headache
- Shortness of breath of difficulty breathing
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
My child is a close contact, what do I do?
It is still public health guidance and CDC guidance that close contacts who are not vaccinated quarantine. Please follow medical professional guidance, and do not send students who are close contacts to school. All children 5+ are now able to be vaccinated.
My child is a tested positive, what do I do?
Please let us know and contact public health (or their doctor) to determine when they can return to school.
Someone in my child's class tested positive, what do I do?
Monitor for any sign of COVID symptoms, if they do not have symptoms, they can be at school. Chinook now has antigen tests (tests for students who are not showing any symptoms) and can offer testing to students in the class 1-2 times after their last contact with the positive individual. This option will allow us to keep as many students in school as possible and see if transmission within the class is happening.
Please log hours already logged in the signup. Thank you!
