A Message from the Superintendent

Big picture

Dear Families and Staff,

The first few days of school have been absolutely amazing thanks to the collaborative efforts of our staff, students, and parents. The focus on reconnection and belonging creates a solid foundation for the year ahead. The heat has certainly been a force to contend with, and we are hopeful that the forecast for the next week looks much less daunting. Thank you to all involved in the following events and activities to get the year started well...

  • Staff were welcomed at an outdoor Opening Day 2021-2022 kickoff event, with a number of our community organizations in a “College Quad” style event.

  • District families and neighbors were invited to the Emerge Winnetka preview concert, featuring the musical talents of a District alum. Special thanks to The Winnetka Public Schools Foundation for helping sponsor the event.

  • Students were welcomed with enthusiasm on their first day of school with many parents able to walk them on campus and take pictures.

  • PTOs have warmly welcomed staff and families back to school with balloons and signage. To our new families...we are grateful you are here!

As we conclude the week, please enjoy this Welcome Back video, featuring many of our students sharing what they love about The Winnetka Public Schools.

I also want to introduce you to our new Portrait of a Graduate, communicating the unique characteristics, skill sets, and mindsets we strive to develop in every learner. These competencies define a successful Winnetka Experience for our students and will prepare them to thrive as learners and leaders in the world. The Portrait was designed by a team of approximately 60 students, staff, parents, community leaders, and alumni who helped inform every element of our Strategic Plan. It will be used by the District in planning student experiences and communicating the why behind important activities and projects. Expect to learn more about this new tool at the upcoming Go To School Nights.

Enjoy your weekend as you and your families share highlights of the first week of school.
