We Engage We Educate We Inspire
Hello Stallions!
What a great week! We started our Spring testing season with AzMERIT writing and two grade levels took the first part of math/ELA. Our students showed perseverance and determination and we are super proud of them! We had successful NEHS and PTSO meetings on Tuesday night and Wednesday everyone was decked out in blue for Autism Awareness. We really appreciate everyone's flexibility with moving 4th/6th Grade testing to Friday and postponing the STUCO dress up day. It really was a great week at the Ranch!
Sonoma Ranch Elementary School is establishing a chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) to recognize its most outstanding students. We are now undertaking the process of selecting new members for the 2019-20 school year. More than just an honor roll, NEHS engages its members in service activities and leadership development that help strengthen the programs for all students at the school and improve life in the community. Sonoma Ranch Elementary joins elementary schools around the nation in establishing a program to promote excellence in academic achievement and involvement in leadership and service for the nation’s youngest students The National Elementary Honor Society joins the National Honor Society (NHS) and the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) as the nation’s premier organizations recognizing outstanding students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, responsibility, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. For more information about the Sonoma Ranch Elementary Chapter, please contact Mary Howard at mary.howard@gilbertschools.net.
State testing continues this week! Our 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th Graders will wrap up AzMERIT this week. I've shared the message all week that "We are READY!" and our students have done an amazing job. Let's keep it up!
The testing schedule is as follows:
- April 15 - 4th/6th ELA (Reading) & Math day 2
- April 16 - 3rd/5th ELA (Reading) & Math day 2
Your assistance and support are crucial for our students to do their very best and accurately show what they have learned. Please:
- Make no plans for days off or appointments during school hours on testing days.
- Make sure that your student is in attendance, on time, and ready to begin promptly at the beginning of each school day.
- Consider keeping your student’s cell phone at home during this time, as phones need to be collected during testing.
- Ensure that your student gets plenty of rest and eats a good breakfast each day during testing week.
- Encourage your student to do his/her very best on the exams. Student confidence is key in testing!
Testing will alter the lunch/recess schedule as follows:
- April 15, 16: 5th grade 12:10-12:50, 6th grade 12:30-1:10
Your continued help will help make our state testing this year a success! Thank you for assisting our teachers in stressing the importance of the upcoming tests and helping Sonoma Ranch Elementary to provide the best testing conditions possible.
The Week Ahead and Beyond!
In addition to the testing schedule above, the week includes:
Wednesday we encourage everyone to wear BLUE for Autism Awareness. It is also our normal early release with students heading home at 2:30 PM. The Science Matters class meets after school.
Thursday the 18th is our Student Council Spirit Day! It is Throwback Day. Everyone is encouraged to dress from a different decade! It's time to bring back the 70s, 80s, and 90s! It should be a fun day at the Ranch.
There is no school on Friday the 19th and Monday the 22nd.
