The Baylis MakerSpace Coming Soon
...where curiosity leads the way!
What is a Maker Space?
A Maker Space is a special space, set aside for students to build solutions to problems they see as important. A makerspace is a place where students can gather to create, invent, tinker, explore and discover using a variety of tools and materials. Small groups of students with shared interests can request time in the Maker Space to "tinker" with their ideas to find solutions to problems. Dr. Kelly will facilitate these workshop times in order to support their curiosity and creative problem solving!
Think
Is there a question you want to investigate? Are you wondering about something and you like to build something to try it out? Find a partner (or more than one!) and make a "Plan for Investigation"!
Plan
Before you can build, you have to plan. Our "Plan for Investigation" is a form you fill out with your partner(s) that shows you've thought about your "problem" and have a direction you want your investigation to take.
Create!
Follow your plan, make changes if needed and build a prototype for your solution.
Sharing it with others is an important part of creating it!
About Our Maker Space...
The Baylis Maker Space functions as part of our Schoolwide Enrichment Program. It is open to any students who have an idea and a plan for investigating a problem. Students will work with Dr. Kelly to schedule workshop time and all work will be done under the guidance of Dr. Kelly for purposes of learning as well as safety.
