A huge thank you to the entire community for a fantastic Halloween Carnival! The event was a great success and raised $7,000. We want to thank all of the parents who supported the event or brought donations and we want to especially thank Brenda Melchor for leading such a fun night.
Please make sure to send in your Direct Drive Donation. Our goal is to raise $100,000 and we have raised $10,000 so far. We ask for $500 per student and that each family to donate only what they can. Donations support critical programs like PE and art. Donate here. https://starshiporion.org/

Student Leadership Opportunities for grades 3-5
In grades 3-5, as students learn more collaborative and social skills working with others, they are given more responsibility. Some of the opportunities this year students will share in leadership roles at school are through Student Council, The Peacemakers Program through Soul Shoppe and the Traffic Valet Program.
Last week students in grades 3-5 learned about the role of Student Council. Interested students received applications which are due to the classroom teacher by Oct. 30th.
Students will make a brief speech to their classmates and then the each class will vote on 2 representatives for their class. Stay tuned next week to learn who will serve on Student Council for this school year. Our Americorps Volunteer will be leading the council members this year each Thursday after school.
The Peacemaker Program will begin later this month. The Peacemaker Program is a Student Leadership program that trains a team of select 3rd, 4th and 5th grade Peacemakers to solve problems and provide allyship and communication support on the playground and in the classroom. For more information: https://www.soulshoppe.com/peacemaker-program/
Last, you may have noticed our 4th and 5th grade student valets helping with traffic and student safety after school at pick up times. Thanks to parent volunteer Jennifer Cortesi for leading the group of future leaders!!
