Welcome to the 2019 – 2020 Denton Magnet School of Technology school year. I am Mr. Giles, the new school counselor. I am thoroughly enjoying learning about Denton Magnet School and how wonderful it is. I am also enjoying getting to know the students, parents, guardians, and faculty here at Denton. Periodically, I will be sending out information about events and offerings here at Denton and in and around the Mobile County Public School system.
- Yesterday, Monday, September 9, students first progress reports were sent out.
- Thursday, September 19, Eighth graders will be attending the Worlds of Opportunity field trip at the Mobile Civic Center. The field trip is free for students who bring back their permission forms.
- Tuesday, September 24, 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at the USA Mitchell Center, Mobile County Public School System will be hosting the Signature Academy Showcase 2019. The event is open to all 7th graders, 8th graders, and their parents.
- Save the date for the Homecoming Dance - Friday, October 4.

Sixth graders need a copy of Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie for their next novel study this quarter.

- Novel Studies - The deadline for ordering your novel for 2nd quarter is September 20. All students are required to have a paper copy of novels for annotating purposes. Books may be ordered through e-Funds on our website.

- National Junior Honor Society Meeting - September 26 from 2:30 - 3:30 in the Media Center
- Bake Sale - Friday, September 27 during 5th Period. Everything is $1. Students with allergies are told not to participate.
- Little Caesar Fundraiser - This fundraiser will run from September 30 - October 11. We appreciate your support. Funds will be used for various student activities.
- BEST Cheer Squad - Denton ACES, our competition team, will be competing in Jubilee's BEST Robotics Game Day on Saturday, October 5 at USA Mitchell Center. We need a "cheer squad" and encourage all students to attend the event in support of our Robotics Team. Be on the lookout for more information, including a t-shirt for the event.
- PTA Reflections Contest - Submit your entry to Mrs. Quinones on or before October 31. The categories are: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and the Visual Arts. - Although Denton serves only 4 EL’s with accommodations, the school has 40 students listed with English as their Second Language. Therefore, parents may need translators or assistance from the ESL Office if they have questions about anything.

Please come out and support the DMST Archery Program by joining us for dinner on 9/19/19. We will be eating at Panda Express at 3811 Airport Blvd from 4PM – 9PM. You must give them the flyer from the school when you order. They will be giving the school 20% back from the sales that night. Thank you for your support!
