TNS Counseling Newsletter
February 2020
Happy National School Counseling Week!
The week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), highlights the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and the tremendous impact they can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Take a moment to thank your local school counselor(s).
School counselors help students in more ways than you realize. This week we celebrate them as a part of National School Counseling Week 2020. Learn more about the role of this necessary profession: http://bit.ly/SCRole.
Recently on December 16th, 2019 our Governor Ralph Northam along with the Virginia Secretary of Education, Atif Qarni, proposed $99 million towards new school counseling positions in Virginia! Atif Qarni tweeted, "Today, I testified to the House Ed Committee about the importance of investing in students’ social emotional health. HB 1508 establishes a 1:250 student to school counselor ratio, proven to lower disciplinary rates and increase graduation rates."

Recently The Nokesville School’s Robotix team performed admirably at a local competition. Three different teams of Nokesville students designed, built, programmed, and drove their robots in the robotix competition. Thank you to Mrs. Ali, Mr. O’Connor, and parents for supporting these great students! Way to go Tigers!
