President's Corner by Cree Sanford

It is so hard to believe that half of the year is almost over. Thanksgiving is just two short weeks away and then the holiday season is here. I hope you and your kiddos enjoy the week off for Thanksgiving and that you have a safe a very happy Thanksgiving Day.

I would like to give a huge THANK YOU to Karen Thomas, Jessina Flores, and Alex Elizarraras for a FANTASTIC job on our first Mummy-Son dance! It was a major hit!! We have such creative parents and students here at Copeland! We also raised over $3000 from proceeds of the dance!! I would also like to Selina Saucedo for organizing all of the many SRC demos and training days for our volunteers throughout the year. Selina is always very hard at work making sure that our Copeland Colts enjoy as much as possible from Cy-Fair’s Science Resource Center. Special thank you to Mishell Rodriguez and Kari Werner for job well done with organizing Colonial Day last week. I can’t wait to see all of the pictures.

As a reminder, our first general PTO meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 12th at 6:15 p.m. in the cafeteria. We will have a quick business meeting to vote on amendment of the PTO by-laws followed by a performance of the Copeland 5thgrade students. Ms. Vigil and the students are working hard on a production that you won’t want to miss! Mark your calendars now to join us.

The holiday parties are fast approaching and will be held on Thursday, December 21st. Exact times will be published in the coming issues of The Horseshoe Review. Homeroom coordinators will be contacting you soon regarding volunteer opportunities for the parties.

There are so many activities still remaining in 2017 and I want to THANK the numerous volunteers at Copeland that make these activities happen. From the garden, library, hospitality, and HRC’s, to the SRC, clinic, music and PE rooms, and art room. The services you provide are invaluable and so very much appreciated! As we approach this Thanksgiving season, I am very thankful to be a part of such an outstanding school and PTO. I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

As always, if you have any questions regarding the PTO, please feel free to contact me at

Volunteer Activities

Please make sure you have registered at the front office and have had your ID scanned. I know it’s only November, but class parties are quickly approaching and this will save you time checking in!

We also always need volunteers and helpers year round. If you do have ability to volunteer on a more regular basis, there are plenty of opportunities. You can learn about SRC (Science Resource Center), which is an excellent resource not only for the students, but for parents too. If you are able to volunteer for this, I promise you will learn something too! Please contact our SRC Chair Selina Sauceda at for more info.

The library always needs volunteers, as do art and music. Please let me know if you want more information.

If you have any questions or comments regarding our VIPS program or would like to volunteer, please contact me at 713-829-0638 or

Science Resource Center by Selina Sauceda

Hello Copeland Parents!

I am excited for another great year at the SRC! Please

the information below to see how you can help!

What is the SRC: The Science Resource Center (SRC) is a CFISD center that brings curriculum and live animals, meant to extend on the science lessons done in class, to the schools. All materials and live animals needed for lessons are provided by the SRC staff.

Who is needed: The SRC demonstrations (demos) are done by campus volunteers. The SRC will train you in any grade level demo you are interested in presenting. Demo dates are then set by the SRC Liaison at each campus, and the trained volunteer presents the demo to the students on the assigned date.

How to volunteer: See the

Fall demo dates below and RSVP to Selina Sauceda with the grade level and demo dates you wish to be trained for:
