WMS Demons
From the Office of Mrs. Kennedy
Be your best.
Do your best.
Grow even better.
Happy Labor Day weekend! We hope you enjoy your time with family and friends.
It has been a wonderful first two weeks to the school year. Students are becoming more comfortable finding their way to their new classes, getting to know each other, and learning new routines.
Next week is our first Friday School of the year. Friday School began in GPS last year. Jefferson Elementary and Lincoln Elementary's Friday School looks a bit different than it does here at Washington Middle School.
Friday School days are officially school days. WMS Staff is here and working every day of Friday School. Students are required to come...unless they have an A, B, C, or D, in all their classes. This is their "exit" out of having to come on Friday. If a child has an F in any of their classes, the child needs to attend on Friday School days.
This week your student watched the following video to learn about Friday School at Washington Middle School. I would encourage you to watch it as well as it explains our procedures, expectations, and our purpose is for Friday School.
Picture Day is ALMOST HERE...September 6th!
Mark your calendars! Picture Day at WMS is on September 6th!
Be ready, Demons. Can't wait to see your smiles.
Sports pictures will also be that day after school. Student-athletes will need to bring their uniforms for pictures.
DID you KNOW?
Locks on Lockers Are Necessary
At WMS, we have asked all students to have a lock for their locker. We encourage students to have a combination lock of some type (no key locks) Locks were added to the school supply list this year. It is highly recommended as this is a place in the school students are able to store their things securely.
Also, we remind students to keep their combinations to themselves. Sometimes middle schoolers like to share their combinations with friends and let friends use their locker. We highly discourage this practice.
Every correct answer enters students into a drawing for prizes. We will draw names for prizes on Monday, September 12th.

WMS and DCC Mentoring Program is Back
Many students participated in the program and enjoyed getting to know their mentor last year. The benefits of this program are numerous, such as providing WMS students with older individuals to look up to who live and learn in the Glendive community, another person of support for students, models of positive relationships, an opportunity to learn from those who have had similar and different experiences, and so much more.
Our WMS students will be paired up with DCC student-athletes for a mentoring partnership. We will be able to pair up WMS students for as many committed mentors we have from DCC. Due to the number of student-athletes at DCC, most likely we won't be able to pair every WMS student with a mentor. However, we are working on increasing our mentors from DCC. When WMS students are paired up, students will be notified and introduced to their mentor at school.
Students will not miss any academic time while participating in this program. Meeting times for mentees and mentors will be during the Monday-Thursday lunch/recess time of the WMS student. If the lunch/recess time does not work for the DCC mentor, we will communicate with the WMS student and family to determine if Wednesday from 3:45-4:45 or Friday 11:00-12:00 will be an option. For the Wednesday and Friday times, family support will be needed for transportation.
All WMS students will participate in this program unless a WMS parent/guardian chooses to opt-out the student(s) from the program. If you choose to opt-out your student(s), please email WMS at wms@glendiveschools.org indicating that you do not want your student to participate in the WMS and DCC Mentoring Program.
