Field Flash

September 14, 2020

Dear Field Parents and Guardians,

We hope this week has gone well for you and your children. Thank you for your continued partnership and support in these unusual times.

A few reminders about upcoming events. Our next materials pick up date is Monday, September 14th. We will follow the same procedures as our first one, including the time frames and entrance location (last door on Wisner, North Gym). Teachers may also share information about returning certain items on this day, so please be sure to watch for that information. Please note some teachers have also communicated with families about not distributing additional items this time, so please be sure to review emails from teachers, as well. I'd also like to remind you that Friday, September 18th is a remote learning planning day for staff, so there will be no student attendance or remote instruction that day.

Thank you for your support with attendance! If your child is having trouble logging in, please call the main office at (847) 318-4385. You are also able to enter a technical support ticket through the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

I'd like to provide a few reminders and suggestions specific to remote learning. About 50% (or more) of your child's day consists of live Zoom or Meets calls. If your child isn't wearing headphones, please remind your child to mute. As a reminder to our families, if your child is not on mute, we are able to hear adult conversations in the home. Thank you for being aware of this to help prevent private conversations from being public in our online classrooms.

Finally, as parents, we know there is a fine balance between doing things for your children and supporting and encouraging them while they do (or try to do) it themselves. During the start of a typical school year, students often productively struggle with new concepts, new routines, new systems, and new teachers. During this year's start, these new experiences are magnified, and we know that. We also know you love your children and want to support them. Try to guide and encourage, rather than complete a task for them. You might see your child is unable to do a math problem or a spell a word correctly; that is okay! That is typical. This is valuable information for our teachers; this helps us plan and differentiate appropriately. Often a "I do, we do, you do" method is helpful when supporting your child. This is where you might model or demonstrate something, your child tries it alongside you, and then your child completes it independently. We hope that this is helpful and reassuring information to read.

Inspire every child to discover, learn, achieve, and care.

Spotlight on Specials

I'd like to put the Spotlight on our Specials team this week! While we know this remote start has increased screen time for our students, we want to be sure we share information about the importance and value of our Specials classes. Our students thrive in music, spanish, art, P.E., and library, so we want to be sure students continue to have these opportunities. In addition, these courses teach state and national learning standards for students. If you weren't able to visit the Specials team during Parent Night, here is a quick link to their presentation.

Information from PTO: Room Parents

During Parent Night, our teachers shared our Room Parent names and emails. That information is included in the linked presentations and videos mentioned in the opening section of this newsletter, as well as here. In order for our room parents to connect with you, please complete the appropriate form(s) below as soon as you can. Thank you!
