Optional: Learner Profile for Student Placement 2022-23

Deerfield Elementary uses academic, behavioral and social-emotional data in a collaborative process among teachers to place students in class sections for the following school year. Our goal is to achieve the best possible balance for each class within a grade level. As a reminder Deerfield does not accept requests for specific teachers, nor are students automatically assigned to a teacher the family has had in the past. Additionally, we will not accept requests to be placed with specific classmates. Class placements for the 22-23 school year will be made public the first week of August.

However, you may provide us with information about your child for our consideration in this process by completing the Learner Profile form below. The information you provide to us is appreciated and serves as supplemental information in our process to achieve the desired balance. Please use the link below if you wish to provide us with additional information.

MultiGrade Classroom

Below you find some information on multigrade classrooms. Every elementary building is likely to have at least one multigrade classroom due to enrollment. Deerfield is no exception. We are going to try our best to keep Kindergarten classes self contained, but could have multigrade classes at 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd. We have decided that we will combine all of our 4th and 5th graders next year and split them between six teachers. Our 4/5th grade teachers are excited for the creative opportunities the multiage model presents!

Field Day 2022

Deerfield will have Field Day this year on Friday, May 6th (rain option May 13th). There will be two sessions:

  • 3rd-5th @ 9:15am - 10:45am

  • Kdg-2nd @ 1:00pm - 2:30pm

Parents and guardians are welcome to attend their student’s session. Upon arrival, all adults must check in at the “Visitor Check-In” table located outside on the blacktop to receive a visitor’s sticker. The activities will take place along the southwest side of the school (playground, blacktop, field). Students participating in field day will have the opportunity to move freely between the 30+ activities. Let's have a fun and safe day!

**PLEASE SEND AN EXTRA SET OF CLOTHES WITH YOUR CHILD ON FIELD DAY JUST IN CASE THEY GET WET OR MUDDY!

MEDICATION PICK UP!

If your child has medication in the clinic, it must be picked up before the last day of school. Please make arrangements with the school nurse to pick up your child’s personal medications in the clinic. For safety reasons, the school may NOT send medications home with students without written parental consent. IMPORTANT: Medications left at school after May 25, 2022 will be destroyed.

Thank you for your assistance,

Dianne Thomas, RN, School Nurse

CHANGE MAKER OF THE WEEK

Our goal is for our students to see themselves in our change makers and to also learn that they can do anything they put their mind to. Another goal is for our students to see people who are unfamiliar to them, to grow in empathy, and push for justice for the inequalities that marginalized communities face.

Mrs. Amlung Announced as the April Hy-Vee High 5 Winner

Congratulations to our Hy-Vee High 5 April winner, Mrs. Amlung!

Mrs. Amlung is a 3rd grade teacher and was nominated separately by FOUR of her students: Lillian Ramsey, Sully Carroll, Madelyn Griffith & Reid Miller! Lillian thinks Mrs. Amlung deserves a 'high five' because “She is kind and thinks of good activities” and Reid agrees as “she helped us get our donuts made by a baker and does a lot of fun other projects!” Madelyn says “Mrs. Amlung is caring, fun, and has great patience. She tells great stories and is always there to help when we need it.” And Sully insists that Mrs. Amlung deserves a ‘high five' because “She isn’t great, she’s amazing! She is also very fair and honest.”

Congratulations Mrs. Amlung! Thank you for all that you do!

Thank you to all the students who nominated our amazing Deerfield staff and teachers this year! We wish we could recognize everyone!
