Life is better at the L.A.K.E.
Lakeside Middle School - Friday, October 15, 2021
We have begun our second quarter and with that, students have begun their new connection classes as well as a new bell schedule.
You have received multiple communications from the county regarding our Strategic Planning and Accreditation process. An important part of this process is input from our community. Please take this survey to give your feedback that will help shape our Strategic Plan for the next five years. The survey focuses on district initiatives and the implementation of the Learner Profile.
If you would like to give input on the 2023-2024 School Calendar, please use this link by October 27th.
Additionally, you have received communication regarding the SPLOST 6. Early voting begins this week and continues until November 2nd. Please take the opportunity to learn more about the ESPLOST and its impact on our school and district here.
If you are looking to change the learning environment for your student from face-to-face to virtual or from virtual to face-to-face, please fill out this Learning Environment Change Survey. It will remain open until November 5th. Once the survey closes, all learning environments will stay until the end of the school year. If you are not looking for a change, you DO NOT need to fill it out.
On a more serious note, I sent an email a couple of weeks ago regarding the Tik Tok Challenges. See Something, Say Something! Please talk to your children about TikTok challenges and their life-changing consequences. Students and parents/guardians may submit ANONYMOUS tips at http://ow.ly/KoMH50GiVEc.
We are adding an additional layer of communication. You will receive a grade level newsletter that will be sent out on alternate weeks of the school-wide newsletter. These newsletters are sent through Parent Portal Messenger each week.
We are thrilled to see the COVID data trending down and hope to see this continue.
We are a community that must work together to keep Lakeside and Forsyth safe. Thank you for keeping students home when sick and staying in communication with us.
COVID Notification Procedures- Important Contact Information and Nurse Information

Teacher and Support Staff of the Month
It’s time to start voting for “Teacher of the Month.” In addition, we will also be recognizing a “Support Staff of the Month.” This includes secretaries, custodians, cafeteria workers, and paraprofessionals. The winners of each monthly award will be eligible for next year’s “Teacher of the Year” and “Support Staff of the Year” award.
When making your choice, be sure to think about a teacher and a support staff member that exemplifies Lakeside P.R.I.D.E. Nominate people who show positivity in their work, respect for students and peers, integrity, diligence in their work, and make the effort to be kind to all.

Sources of Strength
Everyone has a place to belong at Lakeside! Sources of Strength is continuing the “Wheel of Belonging” activity in the atrium next week. Spin the wheel and share how you have been connected this year and how you promote belonging at Lakeside. Shout out to two of our 8th grade peer leaders, Spencer and Mason, for creating an awesome welcome chalk art at the front entrance.

P.R.I.D.E. Students of the Week Shoutouts (10/1 – 10/15):
6th Grade:
Mrs. Lindelli recognizes Lupita L. because Lupita helped with the garbage after our classroom lunch time without being asked. Thank you for being a good human!
Mrs. Gasser recognizes Josie S. because she came into the classroom and immediately started helping set it up before even asking to go to her locker. Thank you Josie!
7th Grade:
Mrs. Ryan recognizes Anikshaa P. because everything Anikshaa does is with respect & effort. She has offered to create, design, and draw on the chalk wall and she goes above & beyond on her reading and reflections. Anikshaa ROCKS!
Mrs. Collins recognizes Willow D. for her effort! Willow's efforts in ELA have been awesome. She has really gotten into our narrative writing and has been willing to share her responses. I am so proud of her and I am thankful she is in my class this year :)
8th Grade:
Mrs. Chunn recognizes Alex M. because he helped a fellow student understand the concept of solubility. He took the time to reteach the concept and not just give him answers. BRAVO!!
Mrs. Chunn recognizes Alena V. because of her constant willingness to help me in the afternoons with clear ups and setting up for the next day. Thank you for stepping up to help!

Transportation Reminders
Transportation will have delays as bus routes are finalized and adjusted based on the amount of students on buses. Please know that the morning bus may run late and students that arrive late will not be marked tardy. Additionally, we keep breakfast open until all bus riders have arrived. In the afternoon, some buses will run double routes so please be patient as the goal is to have students arrive home safely.
Here is a link so that you can follow when a bus is loading and departing in the afternoon. Bus Update
Band Instruments that are bigger than a clarinet will not fit on buses.
Please have a plan on how your student will get home each day prior to leaving for school. The school will not be able to contact each student regarding transportation changes. Students will be allowed to look at their phones at 4:10 to check for transportation changes sent by parents. If your student is a walker, have a back up plan in place in case of cancellation of walkers due to weather.
No students are allowed to check out after 3:30.
Students that arrive prior to 8:30 will go to the cafeteria.
Bus riders will go directly from their bus to their classroom.
Please do not let car riders out before they reach the sidewalk inside our parking lot in the morning.
Dismissal:
Walkers:
- Walkers will be dismissed out the front doors beginning at 4:10.
- Must walk home and not be picked up on side streets, other neighborhoods or Haw Creek
Car Riders:
- Car Riders will be dismissed as soon as walkers are clear. Please tell your student to look for you so that when you pull to the front they can get in quickly. There are not car rider numbers. You do not need to notify the school if your child is changing transportation.
- Please pull all the way until the end of the PODS. Cars alternate turning into the parking lot.
Bus Riders:
- Bus Riders will be dismissed as the buses arrive. Please be patient with the bus routes for the first few weeks of school.
- Bus Update
Walkers need to walk to their homes and may not be picked on side streets or in elementary school parking lots. There is no parking in Princeton Square or Echols Enclave for walkers or Haw Creek or on the access road between Lakeside and Mashburn.
