2023 Fair Dates Released
The 2023 Jefferson County Fair Dates are: July 12th-16th, 2023.
Theme: “150th Fair of Family, Food and Fun”
State Fair Exhibit & County Fair Awards Pick-Up
State fair static exhibits and County Fair Awards are available to pick-up at the Extension Office. We need to clear out our meeting room, so please come and pick them up as soon as possible. The following youth have items that need to be picked up:

Extension Board Members
We are looking for anyone that would be interested in serving on Extension Board. It is a great way to get more involved with Extension programming and learning more about all the wonderful opportunities Extension has to offer to clientele. Please contact Darci Pesek at

Upcoming Workshops, Contests & Events
4-H Council Member Candidates
We will be electing new members to the 4-H Council and are looking for interested adults and youth. The council is composed of 6 adults and 6 youth members. Adult members serve a 3-year term, while youth members serve a 1-year term and can serve 3 terms. We would like to invite anyone who’s interested in serving on 4-H Council to contact the office. Youth members need to be at least 13 years old by January 1, 2023.
Please contact us by Friday, December 30th at 5 pm to be considered.
4-H Online Enrollment is Open Now
Year End Treasurer's Report
Organizational leaders and club treasurers, please remember that the 2022 Club Treasurer’s Report is due January 1st. The form is required to be completed even if you have a zero balance all year. If you have any questions please contact the Extension Office 402-729-3487.
Youth Quality Assurance Training
Dave Barnard will be holding a training on
Thursday, February 9, 2022 from 1:30 pm in the ag room at Tri-County. Youth must pre-register at
yqcaprogram.org in order to attend so we can ensure adequate spacing for all participants. When you get registered, make sure to take the pretest before attending the training. Contact the office with any questions and we can send you the instructions for how to get all of these steps done.
We will have additional YQCA trainings this spring in Jefferson County so keep watching for dates!
2023 State Fair Livestock Identification
New for 2023!
All 4-H/FFA BREEDING livestock, market livestock and FEEDER CALVES will now be required to submit a DNA sample/envelope to be eligible to exhibit at the Nebraska State Fair or Aksarben. DNA samples are due on June 15th and nominations must be completed online by June 15th as well. Visit https://4h.unl.edu/livestock-id for more information on each species.
Jefferson County Farm Bureau Student Mini Grant!
Once again the Jefferson County Farm Bureau is offering the Student Project Grant program.
The grant is offered to all Jefferson County FFA & 4-H students.
The application can be found on our website at: https://extension.unl.edu/statewide/jefferson/4-Hforms/, applications much be postmarked or delivered by January 31, 2023 and application interviews will be in February. Please contact Judy Zimmerman at 402-729-2728 with any questions.
2022 Jefferson County Fair Parade
In celebration of the 150th Jefferson County Fair, the fairboard is hosting a parade to kick off the fair on Sunday, July 9th at 4 pm. There will be two divisions to enter floats in the parade with one being youth organizations like 4-H clubs & FFA chapters. There are prizes in each division with the winner getting $100 and $50 to second place. The fair theme is "150th Fair of Family, Food and Fun" so get to work now on your ideas for a prize winning entry!
Virtual Field Trips
Join Nebraska 4-H as we go on-site to learn more about science, agriculture, technology, and more! Virtual Field Trips offer facility tours, educational experiences, and additional resources for teachers. Virtual Field Trips are perfect for youth in 7th-12th grades. Each session will be recorded and made available for on-demand viewing. Youth do not need to be 4-H members to participate.

Workshop Ideas
We are looking for ideas for workshops in 2022 - 2023. We would like to hear ideas of what you would be willing to attend. We would also like to hear from you regarding what times would work best for most people, after school, 1⁄2 days when school is out, etc. Please contact the Extension Office 402-729-3487 and let us know what YOU are interested in.
