Morning Meetings this Week
Teach, model, practice, and hold those "consistent expectations"!
Question :How did you learn how to ride a bike? Write your name? Tie your shoes?
Answer: Someone showed you how and you practiced, practiced, practiced.... until you got it right!
Learning School-wide expectations is the SAME as learning a new skill! If our students are struggling with a behavior, it might be the only way they know how to do it. You may have spent some time on cafe expectations last week, but APEX may have interfered. I am asking EVERY class to spend the next 3 days to review our expectations/ideas below AND to take your class to PRACTICE these expectations.
On Thursday, we will do the same with polishing up our school-wide expectations for Hallway behavior. Teach, model, practice, and hold those "consistent expectations"!
CAFE Practice
· Go over procedures for the Cafeteria each day , Mon-Wed. (list expectations from the poster)
· Discuss with students what the expectations are and have them give examples of what it looks like to exhibit appropriate cafeteria behavior.
· Review expectations for being in the lunch line. Have students give examples of what this looks like by either saying or demonstrating in the classroom.
· Review expectations for getting a teachers attention during lunch (raising hand, using bathroom silent signal, etc.)
- Review expectations for exiting cafeteria and have kids give examples or demonstrate in the classroom.
· Visit the cafeteria with your class twice between Monday and Wednesday to have kids demonstrate each piece of appropriate cafeteria expectations. If students do not demonstrate properly, remind them of expectations and have them try again. When they complete the demonstration of appropriate expectations in the cafeteria, offer reinforcement/specific praise
· Contact Bob if you would like him to join your morning meeting/practice of expectations
· Take students to the cafeteria and practice at least 2-3 times this week. One time is not enough.
