District 81 BOE Meeting 11/11/15
In this Issue:
- BOE Adopts Agreement with SPEA for the 2015-16-2019-20 School Year.
- Five Year Enrollment: SD81 has added 130 students in 5 years; Some grade level cohorts now have 170 students.

The BOE approved the Payment of Bills & Payroll
- November 2015 bills in the amount of $292,569.21
- October 2015 payroll in the amount of $859,659.04
First Public Participation:
Jennifer Yarnell, employee of SD81: Ms. Yarnell is now a cafeteria aide at Kennedy School. Ms. Yarnell shared how impressed she is as a parent and employee. She praised Mrs. Kartsimas, Ms. Schultz, and Mrs. Maglione and the entire staff for their hard work and care of the children. Ms. Yarnell stated that she is fortunate that she goes into the classroom every day to provide snacks. What she sees is beyond teaching: friendship, responsibility and caring. Going into the special education class is the best part of her day. How the staff interacts with the students is amazing. She wants to encourage people to spend time at Kennedy School because it's amazing.

Board Business
Secretary Ewanio shared the following information with the BOE:
- Reminder for BOE: upcoming chorus and band concerts in December
- Thank you to Dr. Boryszewski for representing SD81 as Visionary Leadership Panelist for Apple Inc at Lead and Learn event
- Congratulations to Mr. Norte for being a Hometown Hero, and thank you to Member Hargus, U.S. veteran
- Pre-conference workshop information
- Triple I conference will begin on November 18th
- Confirm dates for the national conference in Boston

New Business Information
- Five-Year Enrollment Figures: SD81 has added 130 students in 5 years, which used to be the normal size of a student cohort. 150 students is now the norm, and some cohorts have 170 students. Discussion: President Desecki commented that the BOE has been working to potentially estimate growth over the next years. Based on previous years, they can only anticipate more growth.
- District 81 Facility Use: Getting more requests from outside entities to use SD81 facilities, including private agencies. Discussion: Vice-President Downs questioned insurance, liability, paying custodians for set-up and clean-up. Member Flanagan also felt that working out the details of what the BOE would like to do in handling these requests so the Superintendent has direction. President Desecki recommended that the policy committee review policies and discuss.

The BOE approved the following:
- Certified Long Term Replacement Teachers, Classified Staff Hires
- Accept Classified Staff Resignations
New Business Action
The Board of Education:
- adopted Resolution #16-04: Agreement Between the Board of Education of School District 81 and Schiller Park Education Association for the 2015-16 through 2019-20 School Years. Discussion: Member Hargus thanked the committee for their leadership in this area.
- approved the salary increase for non-certified employees.
- approved the 2015 school rReport card.
- adopted Resolution #16-05 School Board Members Day, November 15, 2015.
- approved the appointment of Wendy Flaherty as SD81 treasurer.
