A Message from Mr. Anderson
I hope that you all have had a wonderful weekend with your families and are ready for an amazing week at school! You will notice right below this message is a video that Mrs. Hagenbuch has created to update the community on our school and regional response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please watch this and feel free to reach out to the school with any questions.
Emergency Go Home Early Release Day: Please note that we will be dismissing from school 15 minutes early this Thursday and Friday, December 10th & 11th to test our emergency procedures should we have to dismiss early in the future. Please note this year is different from previous years. We will be doing a regular dismissal, just 15 minutes early.we will NOT be sending students home on buses to their emergency go home locations. All parents need to expect is his/her child coming home on the bust about 15 minutes earlier and to come to school 15 minutes earlier to pick up their child.
We had our first ROARS celebration assembly last week! This was a huge celebration of our students folllowing ROARS (showing Respect, taking Ownership of thier actions, displaying a positive Attitude, being Responsible in thier learning and Safe by following our safety procedures and protocols at school). Check out the pictures and celebrations further in this newsletter!
One last resource in this newsletter are outside service provider supports, there is everything from the Savona Benedek libraries supports, to a list of local food pantries, and even links to supports for unemployment insurance. These are challenging times for all of us, and the more we can do to work together and coordinate, the better we can get through this together!
To celebrate the holiday season and show school spirit we will be having Thursday/Friday theme celebrations through the month of December! This week will be dress your most holiday festive and celebrate our school family together!
Thank you for your continued support and trust as we work together to meet the needs of our students first in all our decisions.

Important Message About Student Physicals
Dear Parents,
As of July 1, 2018 New York, State law requires a health examination for all students entering the school district for the first time and when entering Pre-K or Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th grade.
For New enrollments: A copy of the health examination must be provided to the school within 30 days from when your child first starts at the school, and when your child starts pre-K, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, & 11th grades.
The examination must be completed by a licensed physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner in the state of New York. For your convenience, the appropriate forms can be found on the district health services web page.
A copy of the health examination must be provided to the school nurse.
The Covid-19 Pandemic has presented many difficulties for all of us and has changed many things in our health offices.
I cannot honestly say how we will be attempting physicals with our school doctor. Currently the Department of Health is suggesting that we wait until the beginning of the new year before we attempt to do anything within the health office. Of course, they also say that it depends on how the pandemic goes. At least one local school is not going to be doing them at all and have asked parents to use their own doctor.
So, I’m asking that if it is possible, please schedule a physical with your child’s doctor as soon as possible. And submit it to the health office for our files.
If your child has had a physical and you feel this date is not correct, please contact their doctor to obtain a copy for you to submit to the health office.
Thank You,
Showing ROARS and Celebrating!
We also talked about how to show ROARS at home when preparing for school and remote learning. Below is our "At Home" behavior matrix with a focus on "School Preparation". It is so important that every child focuses in and engages in learning every day! Parents, we encourage you to use this matrix to help create clear expectations at home.

Hello my panthers,
I wanted to share a worksheet and video with you called bridging the gap. I love this worksheet because it is easy and it helps you to break down any problem into smaller manageable parts. The best thing is you can create it yourself too on any piece of paper. Please watch the video to help you to break down those problems and start to solve them one step at a time.

Teachers and Kids in Action!
Last Wednesday our teachers engaged in a faculty meeting that focused on taking our Marking Period 1 data and seeing the how our students are doing overall and created action plans to fill gaps in student learning based on this information. Coming up this Monday, our teachers will be taking this data and applying it to a resource focusing on effective instructional practive within a remote model of instruction.
Some highlights of this work for parents:
- Reading Levels - We are noticing that our students are performing about 10%-20% below previous years... we continue to work hard to fill the gaps in learning that occured the end of last year going into this school year. It is so important that students are reading and engaging in student on thier remote days. The best thing a parent can do is make sure your child is reading, everyday!
- Writing - Our students overall are following our writing processes and working really hard. There is a lack in stamina overall (being able to write at length for longer periods of time), but we are closing those gaps everyday!
- Math Performance - After studying our data, our teachers are pleased that overall we are seeing our students holding thier own in math performance. There are some gaps in learning, but parents, kids, and teachers have really engaged to keep our learning in mathematics on the right track.
Overall, we are working really hard everyday to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of every single student in our school. We recognize your hard work at home and are so grateful for your support and communication.

School Info App - Communicating with your child's teacher(s)
How to Get messages from your child's teachers: One important way to get messages from your child's teacher and to make sure that you are getting updates from the school is to go to "My Alerts". Once in "my alerts" make sure that "Enable Push Notifications" is turned on and that all of the buttons are turned "on".
Next... look at the bottom of the screen, you will see the picture of a bell next two an icon of two people. Click on the icon of the 2 people. This will then bring up teachers names along with icons to turn on notifications. Search out your child's teacher(s) and turn on those notifications.
If you would like to send your child a message, go back to the main screen and click "conversations" this then works just like text messaging on your smart phone. Make sure to put a title to the message so you know who you are sending it to when you go back to the app.
New Things!
- The student absence and Tech Help Forms are now in a button on the first page of the app! Just click and you can fill everything out on your smartphone!
A word of advice - Always check and make sure when you are in the app that you are in the correct school. Make sure that it is the Campbell Savona Elementary school:)
