Comet Connection

Keeping you connected with Silver City ES!

ADMIN UNIVERSE

Updated - Saturday, May 23

Comets,

We have wrapped up the 2019-2020 school year and officially welcomed summer to our homes and neighborhoods. The staff at Silver City cannot thank our students and parents enough for ALL you have done to make the final quarter of the year a success. Yes, it was hard. Yes, it was different. But, we persevered! We made the BEST of a very difficult situation.

I hope that every family and every staff member is able to take time this summer to relax and reflect. I hope you can intentionally make time to reconnect with families, friends, and relatives you have not had time to say "Hi" to over the past 3 months. More than ever, we all recognize the need for connection and belonging. I encourage you to take time to do that this summer, if you are able.

This week, families should have received an email from your child's teacher summarizing their reading progress this year and recommending some skills to work on after taking some time for a well-deserved BREAK.

I will say that other than time to rest, rejuvenate and connect with family and friends, the second most important thing you can have your children do this summer is READ. Introduce your children to a new author, a new fictional or real-life character, or a new book series and take them on an exciting adventure through reading. It really is the best way for their minds to continue to grow and learn this summer. While you are doing this, please participate in the Summer Reading Program and complete our June and July Reading Bingo Challenges (more info below). It should be lots of fun!

Look forward to seeing everyone in August!!

EOY Electronic Report Cards

NEW:::

EOY electronic report cards will be available through Parent Portal on May 29. Hard copy report cards will NOT be mailed out at the end of the year. Use these instructions to see how to view your child's/children's EOY report card. Parents whose home language is marked as Spanish, Chinese, Korean, or Turkish, will see both the English report as well as the language that is associated with their IC account in the home language tab (if it is Spanish, Chinese, Korean, or Turkish).

REPEAT:::

Make sure you have an active Parent Portal account prior to the end of the year so you can access your child's final report card.

If you have forgotten your Parent Portal username and/or password, click here to find out what to do.

If you have any questions, please contact Susan Lawing (primary contact) or Meredith Warren (back-up contact) by June 4 to find out more. After June 4, contact Cindy Little at 678-947-0863, ext 312253 for assistance.

A PARENT PORTAL ACCOUNT WILL ALSO BE CRITICAL IN 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR AS WE WILL BE MOVING STRICTLY TO THIS ONLINE SYSTEM FOR VERIFYING CHECK-OUT INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS. CHECK-OUT CARDS WILL NO LONGER BE USED.

20-21 LSC Parent Representatives

Thanks to all who voted and to all who volunteered to be part of our Local School Council for the 2020-21 school year. Our two parent representatives are Katie Evans and Kristy Hamby.

Pick-Up and Drop-Off of Supplies at Silver City

UPDATED:::

Remember our Pick-Up and Drop-off Plan for student supplies takes place on Tuesday, May 26 and Wednesday, May 27--RAIN OR SHINE. The plan is based on students' last names. If it is raining, we will have all interaction with the parents along the front of the school at the car-rider loading and unloading zone.

If you have chromebooks or Kajeets to return, please follow the instructions emailed out from our ITS, Matt Smith, today.

Kindergarten Registration - UPDATED INFO

We are registering all students using a virtual process for the 2020-21 school year. You can begin the registration process even without all of the required forms, but your child(ren) cannot start the first day of school until all of the forms are turned in. Any forms needed from a doctor can be turned in at a later day through the upload process. After registering, you will receive an email indicating any forms that are missing and the upload link is also provided.

REPEAT

Check out our Welcome Video and Virtual SCES tour to learn more about what to expect for our rising Kindergarten students. Check out this website to join us for virtual Q&A sessions, sign-up for KK screenings and fill out our survey so we can get to know your kindergarten-aged child.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Shelley McCannon (smccannon@forsyth.k12.ga.us) or Kelly Evans (kevans@forsyth.k12.ga.us).
