GRE Family Gazette
October 28, 2018
Dear GRE Families,
It's hard to believe that October is wrapping up already. This week was especially fun with our Harvest Parties and annual 3rd grade trip to Myer's Inn wrapping up the week. As we turn the calendar to November the fun will certainly continue. You'll want to pay close attention to the GRE Gazete each week to make sure you don't miss any of these exciting events, including our Veteran's Day Assembly, Canned Food Drive, Grandparent BINGO, Bookfair and final round of Fall Parent/Teacher conferences.
If your family participates in Trick or Treating this week I hope you have a safe and enjoyable time! I look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events!
Here's to a great week full of fun, friends and learning!

Principal, General Rosecrans Elementary
A Few Important Reminders:
1. Each building will be collecting unwanted Halloween candy this year to send/give to troops. Send any unwanted candy to school the week of November 5th-9th and we will send it to our troops.
2. Our school is in need of gently used clothes, especially in sizes 6-8. Now that the weather is getting cooler we need to reach out again to help fill this need. Leggings and sweatpants are particularly helpful!
3. Looking for a fun part time job? Big Walnut Schools Food Service Dept is looking for energetic and fun loving individuals to work in our Café’s. We are currently hiring a 2.5 hour position at General Rosecrans ES, and a 2.00 hour position at BW High School. We are also in need of Food Service Substitutes. Please apply on the District’s website at www.BWLS.net by going to the Food Service link.
Specials Spotlight: Physical Education with Mrs. Grieger
After completing our soccer unit, we are in full swing of our dance unit. This is one of my favorites to teach because the kids are able to put their own personality into the dances. We read the book, Giraffes Can't Dance to understand everyone has their own beat to music and to be confident in their style!
KG and 1st grade have learned lots of dances over the past few weeks. Listed below are the names of them. See if your child can show one of them to you. The Mexican Hat Dance is one of the favorites!
Floss
Hokey Pokey
Bunny Hop
Mexican Hat Dance
Conga
7 Jumps
Do you know the Muffin Man
The Shoemakers Dance
Hawaiian Rollercoaster
Tarantella
2nd, 3rd and 4th Graders are learning the steps to Tinikling. Tinikling is dance that originated in the Phillipines. They use bamboo poles to dance, while we use PVC piping. See if your child can show you a few of the steps, you can use pool noodles, tape or anything else that can make a line for visuals!
