NO ZOOM CLASSES THIS WEEK - WEEK #1 HOMEWORK and STAR TESTING INSTEAD!
This week is our beginning of the semester 'Work Week' with no Zoom classes. All students should be working on homework that was posted for Week #1 (see Google Classroom).
As part of the 'Work Week' all students should take both the math and reading STAR tests. The following are the directions for how to carry them out at home, and you can refer to the email sent by Kerri on Monday, January 25 for full directions.
· Website to STAR (THIS IS A NEW WEBSITE, PLEASE DO NOT USE THE OLD ONE): https://global-zone50.renaissance-go.com/welcomeportal/296154
· Renaissance ID: MVSD53QG
· Choose: I'm a Student
· Please use the same sign-in information as you use to access your account in Google. The username is your email, and your password is your student ID. Use the following information to access the tests for your student(s).
· Username: email without the "@students.mvsd320.org" (grade year, first four letters of first name, complete last name)
· Password: Student ID #
· Choose box: STAR Reading (-OR- for kindergarten students ONLY, choose STAR Early Literacy)
· There will be a box come up that asks “Are you inside your school?” Answer: No
· Choose Your Class: Skagit Academy STAR, Skagit Academy STAR 2020-2021 School Year [NOTE: YOU MUST choose this class only. The assessment will not work with any other class chosen.]
· Monitor password: parentmonitor1
· Press the START button
· The practice test will begin. This part of the test makes sure students are able to read and click on answers. It will not be part of the main test.
· Once the practice test is finished, the main test will start.
· Repeat the whole process to complete the STAR Math assessment. Each test takes about 20-30 minutes.
Thank you for following the assessment guidelines referred to in the email sent by Kerri, and for completing the assessments by Friday, January 29. Please DO NOT hesitate to contact Denelle DeVries if you need assistance, ddevries@mvsd320.org, (360) 770-7636.

Thanks for Volunteering to Conduct Mock Interview for our Career Students!
-"Throughout the interviewer gave me a lot of compliments on things that I was doing well and it boosted my confidence to get through the rest of the interview."
-"I did find the experience valuable and it's going to really help me. I learned I just need to be comfortable and not to stress out. She told me I had good energy and was super sweet. This mock interview was very helpful and definitely will make me less nervous for my first interview."
Academy Parent Profile: Ann Action
Ann Acton is the mother of 5 children, three of which have attended the homeschool partnership and Skagit Academy. She has been with the partnership for around 9 years. One of her daughters even met her spouse through Skagit Academy and they are expecting their first baby any day now, so she owes the homeschool a lot. She is a full-time daycare provider in Sedro Woolley for over 15 years and a part-time author. Her book The Miracle Maker was made into a feature film by mainstay productions and is currently playing on Amazon Prime. She also publishes middle-grade adventure books under the name of B.A. Acton with her son Brenick. These books are designed with a game element to help struggling readers and lots of fun twists that Brenick comes up with. When she isn't keeping preschoolers from coloring on her walls or procrastinating writing she likes to play the ukelele very badly and make dozens and dozens of cookies.

Curriculum Turn-In: Please return all materials when done
As a gentle, but important reminder...please be sure to turn in all non-consumable materials that have been checked out to you that you are no longer using. Now that we have an accurate accounting system for our materials that has been in place since August, items not returned by the end of the year will be assessed as a fine to the family's account. If you have any questions about what materials show checked out to you in our system, please contact Roycie DiTullio.
Missed Curriculum Pickup Day on Friday? Here's what to do...
If you were unable to attend the drive-thru supply distribution day last Friday, January 22, please make arrangements to pick up your supplies by this Friday, January 29. Call the office at (360) 428-6206 to let the office staff know when you will be arriving. Please drive up in front of the double doors of the school, and someone will bring the supplies to you.
THERE IS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE! If you did not make it, it's important that you get your second-semester supplies and other items that have been set aside for your family ASAP. Thank you for making this a priority.
