2nd Hand News
Welcome back!
Dear 2nd Graders & Families,
It is with great anticipation that I look forward to seeing you on September 9th. I've been working to get our newly renovated classroom ready and I'm excited to hear all about your summer adventures!
To celebrate our new & improved Lower School, we have a bit of a different first day schedule:
8:30-9:00 Students and parents gather for a light breakfast in the Auditorium. There will be stations for students to sign in for the day and drop off their backpacks.
9:00 Ribbon Cutting
9:10 LS students remain on the playground
9:15-9:45 Parents tour the new LS
9:45 LS students and teachers go to classrooms
Parents, please remember that as 2nd graders "go down the stairs" to our classroom, an important part of developing independence is allowing them to make this daily walk with their classmates. Hugs and well wishes are best appreciated at the upstairs door.
The first day, September 9th, is a half day with 12 noon dismissal. Please bring a snack and a smile. September 10th is a full day, so bring a snack and a lunch.
2nd Graders, your first job is to know how you are going home from school on the first day. A good way to let me know is to give a note to me, with your name and BUS or CAR. For Thursday and Friday, please write down BUS, CAR, or AFTER SCHOOL. I will send a dismissal chart home with you for the following several weeks.
Please remember to bring back any books you borrowed over the summer. We will have Library on Thursdays.
Some items you will need this year:
- A reusable, labeled lunchbox or bag
- A hard plastic, standard size pencil box
- A pocket folder
- Sneakers for PE on Wednesdays and Fridays
- A plastic mug
- A backpack
- A complete change of labeled extra clothes in a ziploc bag
- Slippers or extra sneakers in case of muddy puddles (optional)
Your second job as a 2nd grader is to make a prediction about our classroom pet. Clues: he is pink and he swims, but he is not a fish! If you already know about our pet, make a prediction about HIS adventures this summer. While the Nyces were having their adventures in Sweden, the Shore, and camping, the classroom pet "got out." What do you think happened? Where did he go?
I know we will have a fantastic year of learning and growing together as the leaders of Lower School!
See you soon!
Mrs. Nyce
PS: Parents, please send an email back to me to confirm that I have your correct address for 2nd Hand News. Thanks!
