Keeping Up with Kipling!
January 14, 2022
I hope you had a wonderful week!
It was a great one here at Kipling School. The weather warmed up a bit and we were able to get back outside. Fresh air makes a world of difference to elementary school children!
We did some MAP testing this week. There were a few tech issues, but we were able to get some of the tests finished. I am looking forward to seeing how much our Cougars are growing!
Please remember to drive safely when picking up your students or dropping them off. Being patient and aware are supremely important to the process. It is helpful to remember that you need to continue to pull up. If you are dropping off your child, do not stop in front of the door...pull as far forward as you can. That same rule goes for pick up. They can walk to your car. When I was a child, I walked 10 miles to get to my school...uphill...both ways...in the snow even during the summer! Please pull up so that more students can be dropped off at one time.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Stay safe and be healthy!

5ESSENTIALS SURVEY NOW OPEN - LEND YOUR VOICE TO HELP OUR SCHOOL!
Again this year, parents across Illinois have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent, it allows you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness. Your responses also help guide district improvement.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago on behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
· Effective Leaders
· Collaborative Teachers
· Involved Families
· Supportive Environments
· Ambitious Instruction
To take the Parent Survey, please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the appropriate survey to begin. Your identity and responses will be kept completely confidential and will not be connected to you or your child. The survey should take no more than 5 minutes to complete.
In addition to parents, 4th through 8th grade students will also be responding to this survey. Per school board policy 7:15, you may opt your child out of any survey. If you would not like your child to participate in the 5Essentials Survey, please contact your building principal.
Upcoming MAP Test (2nd Running)
Between January 10th and January 28th, our schools will again administer the Math and Reading MAP assessments from the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA).
As a reminder, winter MAP data provides us with a mid-year, point-in-time snapshot of a child; however, a triangulation of data gives us a deeper understanding of each individual student. For example, classroom assessments, mastery of standards, and day-to-day performance also inform our instructional practices.
While absolutely no preparation is required/needed, you may view this practice test if you have any desire to see what the assessment looks like. The username and password are both the word “grow”.
Afterschool Enrichment Activities Offered by the Deerfield Park District (Final Running)
After school enrichment activities offered at the elementary schools will resume on January 10th. These programs are run by the Deerfield Park District, so you do not need to fill out a DPS 109 consent form for these programs.

- Chess (Tuesday)
- Karate (Tuesday)
- Ceramics (Wednesday)
- Amazing Minds (Wednesday)
