Utopia

A place in which everything is perfect

My utopia would have enough food that everyone in the world would never be hungry, jail wouldn't be necessary because everyone would get along, it would be raining all the time, it would be free to travel wherever you wanted in the world, and lastly there would be no such thing as sickness everyone would be healthy.

Power struggle

One way Lord of the Flies isn't a utopia is how Jack and Ralph both try to have the power it is uncivilized, in a utopia everyone would agree.

Quote: "Shut up," said Ralph absently. He lifted the conch. "Seems to me we ought to have a chief to decide things."

"A chief! A chief!"

"I ought to be chief," said Jack with simple arrogance, "because I'm chapter chorister and head boy. I can sing C sharp."

This quote shows the different opinions between Jack and Ralph and how they each think they should be the chief

Fear

The boys fear "the beast" that lives on the island in a utopia there wouldn't be fear. Since the boys have fear they turned to Jacks side because he is the hunter so they think he will keep them safe.

Quote: Ralph laughed, and the other boys laughed with him. The small boy twisted further into himself. "Tell us about the snake-thing." "Now he says it was a beastie." "Beastie?" "A snake-thing. Ever so big. He saw it." "Where?" "In the woods." This quote shows how the boys are making a little boy fear what is in the woods which later on in the story they will fear too.

Shelter

The boys are living on a lonely island so there isn't anywhere for them to sleep they have to find ways to stay safe

Food

The food supply is scare, they are in charge of hunting and finding their own food. That's why they turned to jack since he was the hunter. But even when they did catch food there couldn't be enough for everyone to feel full

Quote: The quote i picked shows how Jack didn't allow piggy to eat the food just because he didn't hunt. “Aren’t I having none?” said Piggy, and Jack responded saying " You didnt Hunt"

Disrespect

One of the main problems on the island was how they treated each other, Jack thought he had all the power so he was cruel to the other boys, they weren't treated equally.
