SHMS e-News
April 21st, 2023
Dear SHMS Families:
This morning the SHMS administrative team held grade-level assemblies to review expectations for the end of the school year, as well as PSSA testing. During these assemblies, we emphasized the importance of being kind to one another and supporting each other as we finish this school year. Our overarching theme was “Words Matter” both in verbal and written form. We want to have a strong finish to the school year and have asked all students to uphold our Panther Pride expectations: Stay Safe, Stay Responsible, Stay Respectful, and Stay Kind.
PSSA testing will begin this Tuesday. Students are encouraged to get a good night’s rest and eat breakfast before testing. Students will begin testing at 7:50 a.m. It is important that students are present and on time. All students can take advantage of extended time. Students cannot bring cell phones or other electronic devices into the test session. This year SHMS students will take PSSA testing online using their Chromebooks. Students will need to bring their charged Chromebook and charger to school each day. Below are the PSSA testing dates.
ELA – Tuesday, April 25th through Thursday, April 27th
Math – Tuesday, May 2nd and Wednesday, May 3rd
Science – Tuesday, May 9th and Wednesday, May 10th (8th grade only)
Have a wonderful weekend!

HIDDEN HOLLOW MUSIC TRIP
All SHMS student musicians in 6th, 7th & 8th Grade are invited to come to our annual end of the year trip to Hidden Hollow Swim Club. It is one of the best days that we have for our students and a great culminating celebration for all of our student musicians' hard work throughout the school year. This year's Hidden Hollow trip will be taking place on Monday June 5, 2023.
All permission slips will be collected electronically (with option to print if needed). You may find the permission form HERE, only 1 per family is needed. Cost per student is $18. Payment can be made with cash or check made out to Strath Haven Middle School, and turned in to any music teacher. This covers admission to Hidden Hollow swim club, transportation to and from the event, lifeguards on staff, music/entertainment, as well as snacks and beverages. If cost is an obstacle for your student, please reach out to Sarah Elsheakh so you can be accommodated. Sarah Elsheakh is the primary contact on this trip. Please email her with any questions or concerns.
