A Message from Mr. Anderson
I hope that you have all had a great weekend and are ready for another awesome week at school!
As you have heard, Governor Cuomo announced last week that Parts of Steuben County have been placed in a "yellow zone" along with parts of Chemung County being placed in an "orange Zone" (please refer to picture). This is due to the average daily positive COVID rate being at 4% and 5% respectively in these areas. Although a small part of our District is in the yellow zone, both of our school buildings are not. If our school fell into the yellow zone, we would need to test a random sampling of 20% of our students, faculty and staff on a weekly basis to be able to continue having students physically in school.
Governor Cuomo will be updating these zones every 2 weeks, so in the meantime we will be working to plan for a school response should we fall into a yellow or orange zone in the future. It is important to let our community know that we will not participate in testing students for COVID without a process, parent permission, and in a transparent and supportive way.
In addition, we are ramping up our efforts to prepare for fully remote learning should we have to physically close the building down for a period of time. Depending on the grade level that your child is in you may have already started to see some shifts in instruction on remote days... teachers are starting to live Zoom lessons, meet via Zoom in small groups, and live record lessons. Over the next two weeks your child's teacher will be sending more information home regarding what a fully remote schedule may look like and how your child will engage in his/her education.
In summation, we are planning ahead and will be sharing these plans with our community as soon as we can so that we are prepared and everyone knows what to expect no matter what may change,
#PantherFamily!
INFORMATION AND RESOURCES FOR PARENTS
Mrs. Sears, Elementary School Counselor
Hello My Panthers,
Over the last few weeks, I have been able to talk with numerous families about what are their main struggles with virtual learning for their children at home. Each family brings their own story to the table, even though this is the case overall I have heard that trying to establish a structure has been difficult. My tips to establish a structure for any family is to sit down with all members and go through each day of the week to see what they already have scheduled on those days. From there, you will be able to see where you need to add more structure for your week. What your structure looks like depends on your family's needs at this time and can be adjusted as needed. I have provided different ways to create schedules for your family. Some families need more visuals due to having younger children and others might just need the activity written down for their older children to follow. The awesome part is that you can create the structure/schedule any way you want so the examples that I have provided are just a starting point for you family. If you would like to go over how to make a schedule/structure for you family feel free to reach out to me.

Message from the Health Office Regarding Student Absences and Protocols
Last week, the New York State Department of Health provided school districts across New York State a toolkit with the most updated guidance for schools to utilize in responding to sick students or staff members. As you know, COVID-19 is beginning to spread across Steuben County and the Southern Tier as well as across other parts of the state. This causes the state and its school districts to continue to revise and adjust the required health and safety protocols to ensure the entire school community can remain healthy and safe. We have taken direction from NYS Dept. of Health and Steuben County Public Health in revising our C-S procedures for students or staff members who become ill and exhibit any of the COVID-19 symptoms. Although only slight changes are necessary, it is important that our entire community is aware of these changes as they will be implemented immediately beginning Monday, October 19.
Summary of C-S procedures for ill students or staff.
- Students and Staff who present any of the COVID-19 symptoms must follow up with a healthcare provider OR get a COVID-19 test and communicate their follow up with the school health office within 48 hours.
- Self-quarantining is no longer an option for follow-up (unless placed on a mandatory quarantine by Steuben County Public Health).
- Any ill student or staff who do not follow up with a healthcare provider or get a COVID-19 test will be "deemed positive" by the Steuben County Public Health Department and will be placed on a mandatory quarantine alongside any close contacts as determined through contact tracing.
As a reminder, all required forms for follow-up with a healthcare provider are available on our district website on the Health Office Department webpage. These forms can also be emailed to you from the main office of provided in hard copy at the school for pick-up. Please reach out to the school if you have any questions!
Sincerely,
Melody DeCamp

School Info App - Communicating with your child's teacher(s)
How to Get messages from your child's teachers: One important way to get messages from your child's teacher and to make sure that you are getting updates from the school is to go to "My Alerts". Once in "my alerts" make sure that "Enable Push Notifications" is turned on and that all of the buttons are turned "on".
Next... look at the bottom of the screen, you will see the picture of a bell next two an icon of two people. Click on the icon of the 2 people. This will then bring up teachers names along with icons to turn on notifications. Search out your child's teacher(s) and turn on those notifications.
If you would like to send your child a message, go back to the main screen and click "conversations" this then works just like text messaging on your smart phone. Make sure to put a title to the message so you know who you are sending it to when you go back to the app.
New Things!
- The student absence and Tech Help Forms are now in a button on the first page of the app! Just click and you can fill everything out on your smartphone!
A word of advice - Always check and make sure when you are in the app that you are in the correct school. Make sure that it is the Campbell Savona Elementary school:)

Face Coverings - Basic Expectations
The topic of face coverings (masks) has been a part of our presentations as we have been preparing for the first days of school. The District's "Day in the Life" of a CSCSD student explains this in a fun way!
Mr. Anderson and Mrs. Proudfoot handed out the donated PTO face masks the first day of school. It was awesome to see how excited our students were!
For some basic expectations, please refer to the following general bullets below.
- Students will be expected to wear face coverings in all common areas and hallways.
- Students may take off a face covering when sitting at his/her seat in the classroom and cafeteria.
- Students and teachers must put on a face covering when working in small groups closer than 6 feet from one another as they interact with each other in the classroom.
- Teachers will help to prompt students when it is time to put on face coverings and also to take them off.
What will students be doing on "Remote" Days?
Through many conversations and parent feedback, we at school understand that due to every families unique circumstances that providing flexibility is very important. This is why we worked very hard to have as little time strictly scheduled as possible. We this in mind, the only weekly scheduled time for ALL students to log onto Zoom and attend class will be on Mondays with their entire class (All teams! Red, White, and Blue!). Each grade level will have a specific time to log on so that they can, in real time, talk to their classmates and teacher. This time will be shared prior to school starting. This will also be a critical time for students to hear about the lesson objectives of the week, assignments due, and to have fun communicating with their classmates.
Everyday Expectation - Every student must log on to his/her digital classroom (Seesaw or Google Classroom) and complete the attendance form prior to 2pm.
Mondays - Required classroom Zoom to keep connections with the entire class and teacher, and to get the lesson objectives for the week and assignments that will be due.
Tuesday/Thursday and Wednesday/Friday Remote Days - These days will allow parents and students flexibility in which they can help support their child at any time during the day because the lessons will be pre-recorded and available on Seesaw (PreK-2) and Google Classroom (3-6) along with the assignments and teacher feedback. The only time requirement on these days is that every student must log on to his/her digital classroom and click on the attendance form so attest that they are "in attendance" for the school day by 2pm. It is a state requirement that the school must take attendance every day. We will be practicing all of these procedures and processes with our students on the first day of school!
Since teachers will actively have students in their classrooms Tuesday-Friday; therefore making themselves unavailable for students learning remotely from home, there will be a set time for "office hours" via zoom and telephone in which teaching assistants and special education teachers will be available to help students and parents. You will be notified of these times as the school year begins.
Individualized Expectations - In order to provide a multi-tiered system of support for our students, your child's teacher/special education teacher/grade level Teaching Assistant may reach out to set up specific times with your child to hold small group Zoom meetings to support differentiated and individualized instruction as is needed.
