What is Liver Cancer

Liver cancer is a condition that happens when normal cells in the liver become abnormal in appearance and behavior. And form a tumor inside of the liver.

What does Liver Cancer do


There are usually no symptoms but people can experience;

  • Pain in the abdomen
  • Bloating of the abdomen
  • Nausea or Vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Itching
  • Weight Loss
  • Yellow skin, or eyes


  • Scarring of the liver due to previous damage (cirrhosis)
  • Long term alcohol drinking
  • Non alcoholic fatty liver disease
  • Hepatitis viruses
  • Smoking
  • Low immunity from HIV/AIDS or medicine
  • Heredity
  • Diabetes

Ways to prevent Liver cancer are:

  • Treat or avoid hepatitis
  • Limit alcohol and tobacco intake
  • Healthy weight
  • Limit exposure to carcinogens
  • Treating inherited diseases

How it is Diagnosed

Liver cancer is usually diagnosed through blood tests, but sometimes you may need imaging tests such as ultrasound, CT scan, or a MRI.
