Checking Out the Library!
In the library, we have been reviewing expectations and practicing good standards of library use: identifying a resource need (for information or for fun!), using various tools to search for a resource, locating a resource, and collaborating to help one another along the way.
Students in K-2nd grade have been participating in readalouds and discussions related to classroom content. In Kindergarten, we’ve been exploring differences between fiction and nonfiction books. In 1st grade, we’ve been exploring elements of fiction and series books. In 2nd grade, we’ve been exploring character traits and character development.
Students in 4th-6th grade have also been participating in discussions and activities to promote appreciation of literature. After hearing booktalks of various pieces of new literature, students worked independently and together to reflect on and discuss what the texts could offer them. We focused on thinking and communicating clearly and with precision to describe the books. Students were also reminded about taking part in the Awards Book Program and literature discussions through Learn2Earn's Whooo's Reading website. Ask your student if they signed up and encourage them to read, or read with them! We’re looking forward to the Awards Book Parties in February will students vote on their choice for the award winner!
