A Note from the Nurse about LICE!
Head lice can be extremely contagious and are spread through direct contact with the hair of an infected person, or sharing combs, hats, towels, hair ties, or headphones. Lice do not have wings, and they cannot jump, so sitting near someone with lice does not increase your risk of getting it. If you suspect your child might have lice, I am happy to check them in the clinic. If your student does have lice, they will need to be treated with an FDA-approved pediculicide shampoo before returning to school, and they need to come by the clinic when they return to school so I can verify that the treatment was effective.
At home you should also:
- Remove all eggs (nits) from your child's hair with a special comb.
- Replace or soak in pediculicide shampoo for one hour all brushes and combs your child has used within the last week.
- Launder bedding, clothing and hats in very hot water (120F) on the same day or evening as your child is treated. As a precaution, stuffed animals, pillows or other items that cannot be washed should be placed inside a plastic bag and sealed for one week.
- Vacuum furniture, carpets and mattresses thoroughly.

Attendance Matters
Please work with us to have your students at school as much as possible. We are noticing many unexcused absences. Children are more likely to excel in academics if they are present on a regular basis. If you have any special circumstances that would cause excessive absences, please reach out to a member of the Admin Team or a counselor.
Per TISD attendance policy states that you have up to three days to send notes in to excuse an absence that is not considered personal. Please refer to our student handbook for reference on our entire attendance policy. Also, our tardy bell rings at 8:00 AM. Thank you!

Student Early Check Out
If you need to pick up your student early for an appointment, please note it must be done before 2:30pm.
Also, please do not text or call your child to tell him/her to come to the front office for an appointment. Often students are in the front office waiting for a long time and missing instruction. They may only leave class when they have been checked out and called by a front office staff member.
Thank you for your help in this matter!
