Returning to School October 26, 2020
Regarding students returning to campus, we are excited to welcome more students back on campus, but we will need to follow some rules to keep all students safe:
- Students will need to wear a mask while on campus. A short mask break will be provided. When outside, students may take of masks if engaged in a structured activity in which social distaincing may be maintained.
- Students will need to be screened daily. (Screening questions are listed below.)
- Students will be in class for 2 hours & 40 minutes, and will also need to complete their independent/asynchronous learning when not in class.
- A new permission form will need to be signed prior to a child starting on campus. This form will be made available to you soon.
More info for you:
- Expect an update by Monday 10/19 in the afternoon regarding AM/PM schedules and which section your child is placed in.
- When in school, breakfast and lunch bags will be provided as students are leaving. Please make sure they are fed prior to arriving on campus.
- Limited bus transportation will be available for the PM session. Priorities will be made for students who have IEPs, foster or homeless students, and students who live in outlying areas.
- We will work hard to accommodate families with multiple children and do our best to put them in the same am or pm schedule. However, almost 100% of our families have requested AM, and it will simply not be possible to honor all requests.
- The AM session will run from 8:10-10:50, and the PM session will run from 12:20-3:00.
- Occasionally we may have to cancel classes if we cannot secure a substitute teacher.
- Fridays = 8:30 AM Zoom assembly followed by independent, asynchronous learning.
Screening questions. We will be asking the following questions each day when students come on campus:
Have you or anyone in your household been within 6 feet of a person with a confirmed case COVID-19 for longer than 15 minutes in the past 14 days?
In the last 48 hours, have you, your children coming to school today, or anyone in your household experienced any of the following NEW symptoms?Fever or fever symptoms
Cough
Trouble breathing or shortness of breath
Chills or repeated shaking
Muscle aches
Sore throat
Loss of smell or taste, or a change in taste
Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
Unfortunately, if students have any of these symptoms, they have to be excluded from school for 10 days, unless they receive a negative Covid test or a doctor's note indicating the child can return to school after an evaluation determining their symptoms do not warrant a Covid test or exclusion. We are sorry for this inconvenience and will continue to work closely with our public health officials to do our best to keep everyone safe.

Greetings QES Pioneer Families!
A big thanks to our parent support group (PCO) for securing guests from "Quircus" to join us for our Friday Drive By Say Hi distribution! Ms. Rayen, Ms. Liz & Ms. Kaitlyn did a fantastic job interacting with our students. Thank you!
This coming Friday, October 23, from 12-1 we will be hosting our last big "Drive By Say Hi Distribution" of 2020. (With the vast majority of our students being on campus starting October 26, we will give students their materials on Thursdays.) Students and staff are welcome to come in costume to celebrate the fall or Halloween. We'll be excited to see them, and we assume they will be excited to share their costumes. (Distance learning students and Independent Study students will continue to come by on Fridays from 12-1, but we will most likely not have special guests joining us.) Thanks!
Assembly each Friday. We will be hosting a quick assembly each Friday at 8:30 am. Ms. Wayson and I will deliver a quick message, and Ms. Barbara will spin the electronic wheel for students to win a little prize. All students who have been working hard all week and were able to attend all sessions are put on a wheel that will randomly spin and land on a student's name. Here's the zoom link: https://zoom.us/j/92973202076 Please wear your Red & Black Cougar colors every Friday. Thanks!
Please review the information and requirements provided in this newsletter regarding our return to school on Monday, October 26. We will need to abide by these requirements to keep everyone safe and hopefully avoid any breakouts. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we start this new journey together. Thank you!
