The winter season is underway here in Huntingdon Valley! We have multiple sports and activities happening around town. In the sports world, our athletes are playing basketball, wrestling, swimming, diving, and indoor track. We also have a number of other extra-curricular activities going on.

Thanks to John & Deb. Lawlor, Chip Schneipp, Lee Mitchell, Steve Wittmer, Marie Robson, Eleanor Hwan, Janet Lutter, & Lance Freeman who make our home events run smoothly. Special thanks to Kris Reed, Natalie Firko, and Andrea Schill for their support and communication in regards to the re-scheduling of games and attendance.

Go to http://www.lmtsdathletics.com and select join in the upper right hand corner.

  • You will enter your information to sign up for the website. Once you do that make sure you are signed into your account for the Big Teams website.
  • There a list of tabs towards the top of the screen, you will see Email Alerts on the right hand side. Please click on that tab.
  • That will take you to a new screen, click on the My Favorites/Alerts tab. Then you will see favorites. In that window you can add a school, which you will add Lower Moreland.
  • Then you can add select teams you wish to follow and get alerts for. This is important in regards to receiving information when events change.
  • Click on Alerts and check the boxes of how you want to receive alerts.
  • Click on Alert Settings. You can add another email if you want, or add a cell number and receive text messages as well.

This is just another avenue of communication between the Athletic Department and the Lower Moreland Community.

Girls Tennis Awarded District Sweatshirts

At the School Board Meeting on December 18th, our girls tennis team was awarded their district championship sweatshirts. The team finished 12-3 and won the BAL and District I AA titles for the fourth consecutive year.

Sr. Elizabeth Berzin, who was also awarded student of the month, was a member of the team for all four of those years. Berzin along with Jr. Ally Cheiken finished with silver medals in the doubles tournament as well. Freshman Nikole Lisovyy also was recognized for her earning a state championship in singles tennis.

Indoor Track & Field

The Indoor Track & Field Season is underway and their first competition of the season at Lehigh University was a huge success. The girls team was led by Amajei Dunkley, who ran her personal best indoors in both the 60M dash and 200. Leena Saidi competed in the Mile Run and placed 3rd in her heat, running her fasted time by 9 seconds. Most of the girls competed for the first time and did an outstanding job representing Lower Moreland.

The boys team was led by Dan Maloney, who placed second in the 60M High Hurdles and ran the 4th fastest time in the state, qualifying for the Meet of Champions at the end of the season. There were many top 15 finishers including: Tomas Celaj (14th) in the 60M dash, with a new personal best; Josiah Wiggins (10th) in the 200M dash, also with a new personal best. Shejin Shaju placed 13th in the 400, and Ben Zonshayn ran well in the Mile placing 9th overall. Both teams will be back in action next weekend at Lehigh University.

The team will continue to work hard as they are off to Lehigh again this weekend, and have big races up at Penn State on January 4th and 5th as well as the Armory up in NYC on January 19th. Good luck to the team on their continued journey this season!

The wrestling team is off to a great start under first year coach John Spoerl. The team finished 2-1 at the Upper Merion Invitational, losing by 1 point to Glen Mills School. After a 45-30 win over ANC, the team went to the Upper Moreland Duals where they finished 2nd as well. The team had dominant wins over Lincoln High and Suburban One school, Upper Dublin. The team fell to Harry S. Truman in the finals.

The Lions wrestled at home vs. state powerhouse Faith Chrisitan and league rival Church Farm on Wednesday 12/19. They squad fell short in both matches, but competed tough against some state qualifying wrestlers. Over the holiday break the team will be at the Wetzel Classic at Hatboro Horsham High School on 12/28 and 12/29.

The cheer team continues to prepare for the BAL Championships Competition which will be held at Morrisville HS on January 26th. Coach Gormely continues to speak very highly of the competitive squad.

The cheer team will also be at our home basketball games and performing parts of their competition routine at halftime of the games.

They will also be holding an event at the HS from 4-7 on 12/21. Information is listed below on the flyer.

Boys & Girls Swimming & Diving

The Girls Swim & Dive team has had some great early season highlights. The team has faced off against AAA schools Abington, Pennsbury, & Cheltenham as well as AA school Upper Moreland. The girls currently have a 2-2 record. Grace Dudek, Abby Hwan, Sam Becker & Yuval Levi have gotten off to great starts for the team. The team has qualified for 9 of 12 events at districts so far.

The Boys Swim team has continued to build on last years success. The boys defeated AAA Abington and Cheltenham, fell short against a very good Pennsbury squad, and defeated AA rival Upper Moreland. The currently sit at 3-1 in dual meets. The team has qualified for 11 of 12 events at the District meet in March at LaSalle University. The team has been led by University of Delaware commit Tommy Lutter, Alex Yoon, Greg Landis, Colin Shipp, & Noah Ferker

Boys Basketball

The boys basketball team opened up their season at the Hatters Classic. They played in two classic games, defeating an up-start Council Rock South team in double overtime. On day two of the tournament, the boys fell at the buzzer to William Tennent.

The team has bounced back strong though with league wins vs. Valley Forge Military Academy, a previously unbeaten Church Farm team, and Bristol. On Thursday 12/20, the boys faced defending A District Champion Faith Christian and won by a score of 47-33. This was a great early season test for the boys basketball team.

Over the holiday break the boys will travel to Jenkintown and play in the Robert Hopf Memorial Tournament. They play Calvary Christian at 5:30 on Friday the 28th and then either Jenkintown or Upper Moreland on Saturday 12/29, time TBA.

Girls Basketball

The girls basketball team is off to a 3-3 start on the young season. The girls were able to win their home opener vs. local rival Upper Moreland. The Lions came right back and started 2-1 in league play with wins over New Hope-Solebury and Faith Christian, and dropped a decision to local rival and defending state champion Jenkintown. The team returned a core group from last years states team. The addition of Sr. Allison Asmann should help the girls contend for BAL and District Title in 2019.

Over the break the girls will head down to the Boardwalk Classic in Wildwood NJ to face off vs. Delsea NJ on the 27th.

After the break the girls have some challenging non-league games vs. Phoenixville, Methacton & St. Basils.

Ice Hockey

The LM Club Ice Hockey team is building off of last years success. The team is off to a 4-1-2 start, and is continuing to make progress. Leading the team has been Senior Coleman Peppleman and Sophomore Vince DeMaio. The team is limited with players, but according to coach play with a lot of heart and determination.

Girls MS Basketball

The 8th Grade girls basketball team finished the year with a 2-6 record. Coach Reese was very happy with the progress that the team made throughout the year. The girls entered to post season tournament and faced off vs. Cedarbrook, a team they defeated earlier in the year. Unfortunately, the girls fell short, but overall it was a successful season. We are looking forward to the girls coming up to be a part of our high school program next year.

The 7th Grade girls basketball team finished the year 3-5 record. Coach P was extremely happy with the work ethic and willingness to get better each day at practice and during games. The team faced off vs. Wissahickon in the post season tournament, but fell short by a few points.
