Principal's Update - Mary Quigley

Our new format for this newsletter has really been a positive change for our school. Let's give a shout out to Shannon Matter and Michelle Lease for organizing it in a way that is easy to read and providing pictures of our students in different events!

It looks like the winter temperatures are going to keep us inside for recess more days than not. We will provide a variety of activities for children to keep it interesting. One activity will be to rotate through the gym two classes at a time. Here students can play with the hula hoops, basketballs or four square. In the classroom students can play games or draw. If your child would like to bring a game to school for recess we would welcome it!

WAS PTO President's UPDATE Michelle Lease

We hope your children enjoyed hearing from Daniel Kirk on Authors Day and were inspired to write and draw from his presentation last week. We also hope they enjoyed The Story Pirates assembly. Based in NYC, the Story Pirates bring to life stories that are written by children. They will be back in the spring to act out stories that will be submitted by WAS students. To learn more about them here is a link to their Story Pirate website. Thanks to your support & contributions to the PTO, both Authors Day & The Story Pirates assembly were funded by the PTO.

We are still in need of chairs to run our ASE team. We have 3 of the 4 spots still open and would love your help with it! We have been incredibly lucky to have such a strong team who has delivered such a broad and numerous class selection. We know that it may seem like big shoes to fill, but please know you can make ASE as large as you can manage. The ASE team will also be sharing all their terrific contacts & class ideas with the new team. The team will schedule the new classes & create each session's calendar. Please consider volunteering to help continue this wonderful enriching program. Please email to volunteer.

Please remember to stop by or have your kids look in the lost & found for their coats and belongings before we donate the batch that we have had for several months. Look forward to seeing everyone at our PTO meeting & Family Fun Night this Friday! Also mark your calendars that Friday is Pizza Day! We always need extra volunteers to help hand out pizza if you are free we would love your help!

Family Fun Night Volunteers & Prizes Needed

Family Fun Night is this Friday, January 22 at 7:00 p.m. This is a free event with complimentary refreshments & fun! We hope to see you all there!

We are still in need of 4 additional volunteers (greeters, prize table, snack table, bingo checkers, etc) please sign up on Volunteer Spot if you are available to help out. These events are only possible if we have the help of our parent community. Thank you!

Do you have holiday leftovers or unwanted gifts? We need new, unused gifts worth $5-$10 for our PRIZE table. Please drop them off at 60 Watchung Ave (corner of Watchung and Bridge St) or email before 1/20. Thank you very much!!

Carline Reminder

Please note, when you pull into the WAS driveway there are two lanes. We ask you to stay in one lane to the right until 2:55 when the two PREP buses pull into the driveway. Once these buses have pulled in, we ask that the two lanes are used to alleviate the backup on Washington Avenue. If someone pulls up next to you in the lane please know that they are not cutting and they are following the rules and starting the 2nd lane. We have had numerous complaints of people not working with the alternate merge (right car goes, left car goes, right car goes). We are all in this together...please take turns, it's what we teach our kids to do!!

New WAS Website Shortcuts

We hope everyone is enjoying the new WAS & district website. There has been confusion of where the lunch menu is housed so we wanted to call out the quick links under the shortcut toolbar, please reference the picture below. This is where you will find links to Google Apps, the Genesis Parent Portal, Payforit, and the Lunch Menus.
