Other Exciting News!!
AN ICING STORM HIT GINGERTOWN!!!!
Gingerbread Town (a fictional community, much like Fishers) has been hit by a major icing storm and the entire town was destroyed. Using what students know about communities and economics they are being asked to rebuild the community. Students will work in small groups to recreate a business out of a shoe box, that would benefit the Gingertown community. Students will be challenged to work within a set budget to get the business up and running, all while learning about opportunity cost, scarcity, and trading! This will be a project that we continue to work on over the next few weeks!
Gingerbread House Decorating
***Volunteers are needed next Monday, December 7th from 2:20-3:30 to help divide out all of our gingerbread candy and materials that we will be using on the 16th. Please let me know if you are able to volunteer. You must have a background check and watch the anti-bullying video in order to volunteer!***

Lost and Found
If your child is missing an item (coat, lunchbox, etc.), please remind him/her to check the lost and found table located in the cafeteria. Many lost items are piling up just waiting to be found! You may wish to label any items sent to school with your child’s name in order to make locating lost items easier.

We are Learning...
Next week in reading we will continue to focus on informational text. Students will learn that when reading informational text, they may need to approach their reading differently! We will discuss that the author and illustrator of an information book may be an expert and it trying to teach the reader something new! We will learn to become experts on using the table of contents, and the glossary! Next week, we will be reading and comparing various gingerbread man stories! Be sure to ask your child which version was his/her favorite!

Word Study
Word study in 2nd grade includes spelling, phonics, and vocabulary development. We are focusing on 13 new vocabulary words for the next 2 weeks. Those words are: income, profit, economics, need, want, resources, tragedy, effect, design, supply, scarcity, opportunity cost, and surplus!
Social Studies:
We will continue our study of economics. Students will describe how people in a community use productive resources, create a variety of businesses and industries, specialize in different types of jobs, and depend on each other to supply goods and services. Ask your child how Play-doh helped them to learn economics!
