Homecoming
What a Fun Week!!
Thank you to Dr. Hagengruber and the SGA for such a great Homecoming week! Each day was incredibly fun with our different Spirit Week Wear. Friday was the Car Parade (won by the girls' soccer team with the Paw Patrol theme), the football game, the 40th reunion of the class of '83, and the presentation of the Homecoming Court! We topped it all off with our first Homecoming Dance, The Met Gala Masquerade, on Saturday night. What a fabulous way to celebrate our amazing school and student body- Thank you again SGA and Dr. H for all your hard work, and Dr. Garner for all the support!

National GEAR UP Week
September 25-29
It's National GEAR Up Week! Juniors and Seniors, help Ms. Osborne celebrate by doing the following:
- Juniors! Find and download the 11th Grade Next Guide Scavenger Hunt and return it filled out to Ms. Osborne by the end of the school day, Friday, Sept 29th! You can return it via email (deborah.osborne@mnps.org) or by bringing it to Ms. Osborne in room 144! You can find both theNext Guide Scavenger Hunt and the 11th Grade Next Guide attached here or in Schoology.
- Seniors! Send Ms. Osborne a screenshot of your completed college, technical school, apprenticeship or job application! You can also stop by room 144 and show her you have completed a college application!
All student who complete the tasks above will be entered into a raffle for a $25 gift card. There will be one 11th and one 12th grade winner!

Put it on your calendars and be on the lookout for yearbook sales information. We need parent volunteers to help with school pictures. Sign up to volunteer here! As a thank you for helping, Jostens (the picture company) will give you a coupon code for any pictures you order. Multilingual volunteers are especially appreciated.
Overton Cluster Corner
The Overton Cluster Night Football Game has been postponed to
Basketball Season in light of the situation with our football field bleachers.
PAC Meeting
Our next Overton Cluster PAC Meeting is Monday, September 25th from 6-7pm at Croft Middle School.
There is a need to have an Overton Cluster PAC leadership group.
There are typically 3 positions: Chair, co-chair, secretary
That team does the following:
- Facilitate the Overton Cluster meetings
- Secures the meeting space
- Send out meeting invites
- Create agendas
- Bring speakers
- Have notes from the meetings
- Attend District PAC meetings
- Bring information from your cluster to the District meetings

Scarlett Family Foundation Scholarship
The Scarlett Family Foundation Scholarship application for Middle TN students is now open! Student applicant eligibility is listed below:
- 2.5 G.P.A. & 21 ACT Composite Score
- Demonstrate financial need, as determined by a 1040 tax return and the cost of tuition at the college or university the student plans to attend
- Be enrolled at a not-for-profit, four-year college or university in the Fall semester of 2024-25
- Declare a Business or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) major.

FAFSA is new this year!

Application Assistance
Every Friday College & Career will host College Application & Scholarship assistance sessions through December. Come to the Library Garage during lunch to get help applying to college.
ACT
The ACT held at school is on Tuesday, October the 3rd. Seniors must sit for the ACT to be eligible to graduate according to state regulations. You will be registered through the school for the October 3rd date. Any other date for which you want to register you have to do on your own.

iLead Law and Leadership Conference
October 27th at Belmont School of Law
The iLLC is a one-day event dedicated to nurturing leadership skills among students. It offers a dynamic and educational experience through workshops, as well as a chance to connect with local attorneys and judges. The best part? Mayor's Youth Summit
Who says your voice doesn’t matter? Not us. For over 15 years, the Mayor’s Youth Council (MYC) has been hitting the mark when it comes to bringing young people together to make a change. Alive's Family Retreat
Families with children under the age of 18 who have experienced a death are welcome to register now for a one-day retreat filled with togetherness, remembrance, and play. It’s a chance for families to strengthen their bond in the midst of grief. The day will be packed full of activities such as archery, rock climbing, canoeing, and braving the giant swing! Sprinkled in that mix of fun will be opportunities for families to reflect on their grief journey as well as honor their special person. Families may register at the link below!

Athletics
Basketball Conditioning
Anyone interested in playing basketball will need to get their physicals as soon as possible. Conditioning will be every Tuesday and Thursday. Open Gym will begin in October. Football Schedule
This Friday, Sept. 29th, we play at Independence. The game against Summit that was previously scheduled on Friday, October 6 has been moved to Thursday, October 5 due to the fall break holiday. So enjoy some Thursday night lights before you head out on vacation! Game time is 7pm for all games. For more information on football please contact Coach Broome at arcentae.broome@mnps.org

Tennis Tuesdays
If you're interested in learning tennis with the possibility of making the team in the Spring, come join us at the courts on Tuesdays. 2:30-4:00. Open to all who are interested. Make sure you have your physical completed. Affordable Connectivity Program
The Affordable Connectivity Program is an FCC benefit program that helps ensure that households can afford the broadband they need for work, school, healthcare and more. The benefit provides a discount of up to $30 per month toward internet service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands. Attendance Matters
When students miss school, they miss out. Students who are in school learn more, achieve higher and are more likely to graduate. Bell Schedule

Enriching Scholars
Starting September 23 Overton High School will be participating in MNPS’ Enriching Scholars Program. This enrichment program will provide Reading and Math instruction and support two Saturdays a month throughout the school year. Enriching Scholars will be provided by MNPS teachers and staff. Transportation will be provided if needed, and students will be served breakfast and lunch. Find My Bus Stop
The Find My Bus Stop online tool provides families with the planned school bus route/stop information. Actual route/stop times could vary due to driver shortage route coverage, traffic or mechanical breakdowns. If your student’s bus is more than 15 minutes later than expected feel free to call (615) 259-INFO (4636).

Homework Hotline
Free homework help and tutoring for students K to 12 is available from the Homework Hotline. It's a great resource and available Monday to Thursday 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Call 615-298-6636. We offer help in: English, Arabic, Spanish, French, Hindi, and Farsi. https://homeworkhotline.info

Schoology Parent Account
Student work also can be reviewed in Schoology, the district's learning management system. Families can sign up to receive an update on student work via email from Schoology. To create your Schoology Parent account, email Lori Bervoets for your activation code: lwbervoets@mnps.org.

MNPS online payment system
Parents can create an account by visiting the SchoolCash Online webpage on our website. They can then attach their student(s) to their profile.
