Governor's Thomas Edison Award

On August 14, we received the exciting news that Saint Paschal Baylon Catholic School was selected, for the EIGHTH straight year, as one of the 2018-2019 Governor’s Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in STEM Education and Student Research. SPB was one of only 54 schools in the state of Ohio selected to receive this award. We are honored that The Ohio Academy of Science has recognized our school and teachers who have not only provided a strong STEM curriculum, but who have also encouraged participation in many other activities to stimulate student interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Here is the official press release.

Playground/Lunchroom Volunteer Sign Ups

The links to sign up for playground/lunchroom supervision for parents/guardians of students in Grades 7-8 are now live!

We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer each time slot being 11:00-1:00. We are so grateful for the help!

This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Lunch/Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:00 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting students to the cafeteria from recess, and supervising in the cafeteria. Volunteers will be with one teacher and two "core" volunteers each day to help direct. Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.

Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the grade level link to pick a time convenient for you: Grade 8 or Grade 7

Robotics Team Parent Volunteer

Do you have experience with robotics? We are looking for a parent volunteer to help with our robotics team (grades 6-8) that competes in the diocesan X-STREAM Games on April 4, 2020. Last year was our first year having the team, and we would like to see it continue and thrive. The team uses VEX IQ Robotics kits, and we will be ordering the new challenge set for this year. The team plans to meet after school from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Mondays or Tuesdays twice a month beginning in October and concluding with the X-STREAM Games in April. If interested, please email Mrs. Iryna Kulick, our junior high science teacher, at iklulick@saintpaschal.com or Ms. Diane Raguz, Principal, at draguz@saintpaschal.com.

NEW Box Tops Information

The Box Tops for Education program is changing the way SPB can earn cash for our school.

Over the summer, participating brands have begun to change their packaging from the traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Tops label.

Going forward, instead of clipping from packages and checking expiration dates, all Box Tops will be earned digitally by scanning your receipt. The Box Tops for Education team has worked hard to build a NEW-and-improved, user-friendly Box Tops mobile app, available now.

The new app features state-of-the-art technology that allows you to scan your store receipt, find participating products and instantly add Box Tops to our school's earnings online.

If you still have traditional Box Tops clips at home, make sure to send them to school on the 1st Monday & Tuesday of each month (watch the calendar for exact dates). These will still earn cash for SPB until they expire. Better yet, you can “double dip” during the packaging transition by clipping traditional Box Tops AND scanning your store receipt containing participating products!! We have already earned $12 by scanning receipts!!! THANK YOU!!

Heinen's Teaming Up for Education

Last year, Saint Paschal Baylon PTO earned $2,304 from Heinen’s Teaming Up for Education Program. Heinen’s donates 1% of your purchases from September to April back to SPB; all you have to do is sign up and use your Tasteful Rewards card each time you shop. Remember, each year every family needs to re-sign up and select St. Paschal Baylon. You can select SPB a few ways: by logging into your online Tasteful Rewards account, stopping by the Customer Service Counter at Heinen’s, or calling Customer Relations at 1-855-475-2300 ext 2337. Please sign up and encourage your family and friends to do the same so that PTO can continue to provide funding for technology and other resources for our students. This is an easy way to earn money for our school while you do your regular grocery shopping. Thank you!

The Writers' Fellowship at SPB Parish

The Writers’ Fellowship brings together writers with a variety of strengths, skills and needs in a supportive environment to encourage thoughtful, written expression. Through discussions and readings from the writings of St. Peter Julian Eymard, Thomas Merton, St. Augustine and others, writers will find inspiration and the means to express those ideas from the well-spring of fellowship with others.

St. Augustine wrote: “Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.”

Through writing, we will see what we believe.

Can you make a grocery list?

Can you make a list of things to do?

Can you email a friend? Or can you send a card with a note?

Can you write what you did today?

If you said yes to any of these questions, there’s a place for you at the table. Be not afraid. Remember, you answered one of the questions with a ‘yes.’

THE DETAILS: We meet on Saturday mornings from 9:45 to 11:00 in the St. Paschal Baylon rectory – Arkins Room on OCTOBER 5, 12, 19, 26, November 2, and 9. Park in the horseshoe lot off Wilson Mills Rd.

For any inquires contact Joe McCormack through the SPB Parish Office – 440-442-3410

Please note the Writers’ Fellowship is limited to TEN participants.
