Notes from the Principal
Dear Parents,
One week ago today, our Lady Wildcats achieved perfection! Hats off to a couple teacher/coaches brand new to our school: Coaches Eric Grieser and Brianna Simmons led our girls basketball team to an undefeated regular season and tournament championship. Only the third time in school history, these girls have earned our school another special banner. HUGE thanks, of course, to our own Cheer Coaches Taylor Allen and Anna Seaborn, and the entire group of cheerleaders who supported both teams all season long. Though they couldn’t repeat as champions, thanks to Head Coach Chris Jones, Coach Bombadier, Coach Bates, and all the boys for another successful season on their hardcourt as well. Congrats to Coach DiCarlo and all our wrestlers on a 15-3 season, and to Coach Sagraves and Swimming for competing hard all season long. All winter sports went well!
7th Graders dance the night away this evening, and next week brings us “Love the Bus Week.” If nothing else, I encourage all our bus riders to thank their drivers for getting them safely to and fro each day. Next Friday, February 15, we are excited to again host our Servants with a Heart school-wide meal-packing event. A grand day that’s part of our Service Leadership initiative, we expect to pack approximately 50,000 meals next Friday to provide for the less fortunate. Most of this food makes its way to connections in Nicaragua, but some we reserve for those who need it here locally. It’s been an outstanding multi-year partnership, and we welcome you to be a part. Sign up to volunteer here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0948AEA829A31-servants.
Mark your calendars for Rising 6th Grade Parent Night here at WMS on Tuesday, May 7 at 6pm. We’ve got a ways to go still, but it will be here before we know it! Be on the lookout for our March efforts to again support LLS, and the good work here at WMS will continue. We thank you for your support of our teachers and students, and we wish you all a wonderful weekend!

Influenza (also known as the flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by flu viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness. The flu is different from a cold. The flu usually comes on suddenly. People who have the flu often feel some or all of these symptoms:
· Fever* or feeling feverish/chills
· Cough
· Sore throat
· Runny or stuffy nose
· Muscle or body aches
· Headaches
· Fatigue (tiredness)
· Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.
· Children should be fever free for 24 hours without medicine before returning to school
* It’s important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever.

Due to overcrowding on buses 62 and 85 only riders assigned to those buses can ride. Also, per transportation car riders are not permitted to ride school buses.
Please remember outside lunches from vendors/restaurants such as
Chick-Fil-A, McDonald’s, Subway etc. are not permitted. Parents, please refrain from disguising the outside commercial food in brown paper bags.
Absence/Early Dismissal
Parents, if your child will be leaving school early, please send a note to the homeroom teacher with the dismissal time. Students who leave before or arrive after 12:15 pm will be marked absent for the day. There are no dismissals allowed after 3:30 pm. If you send a note for your student to be in the office at 3:30 pm and you arrive after the 3:30 pm deadline, if your student is not in the office waiting for you the office staff will not call your student out of class. Also, all early dismissal and late arrivals from medical appointments must have a note from the doctor in order to be excused.
When students are absent it is not necessary to call the school. Be sure to send a note to the homeroom teacher stating why the student was not in school. UCPS will notify you through Connect-Ed if your student was
absent.
