MFMC Music Notes

March 2018

President's Message

Although "Spring" is technically here, I'm not sure Mother Nature agrees. I trust everyone has their new slate of officers and will vote soon. Be sure to let me know the new officers once elected.

Instead of Arkansas Gives, we now have Northwest Arkansas (NWA) Gives on April 5th. Opera in the Ozarks would greatly appreciate your support!

Please note the details below about the upcoming Centennial Convention! It's important to have a delegate from every local club. We hope to see you there!

Northwest Arkansas (NWA) Gives on April 5th

We are so excited because OIO has just been invited to participate in an exciting new program called NWA Gives. It is similar to the Arkansas Community Foundation's spring ArkansasGives program for non-profits that we participated in for several years. A group of individuals whose organization benefited greatly from the earlier ArkansasGives, have started a new giving day for our area, called Northwest Arkansas (NWA) Gives, April 5, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

This is how NWA Gives will work - Each participating organization is listed alphabetically. The NWA Gives website then has a link back to each individual organization's website. There will not be a central processor this year so you will go to their website which will link you to our website. You will then give directly to OIO (If you would like to see more about NWA Gives, just go to their website http://www.nwagives.org/)

Just visit the http://www.nwagives.org/ website, choose “Participating Non-Profits”, scroll down to Opera in the Ozarks and use your credit card to donate to OIO.

Won't you please help us raise $7,000 and help OIO win an additional $400 bonus too? You can be the difference!

Centennial Convention Registration is open!

Plans are underway for an exciting Centennial Convention. We're excited to have internationally acclaimed composer, arranger, pianist Mark Hayes. He will present 2 workshops, conduct our Centennial choir and perform for our Friday night concert. We will still accept singers for the Centennial Choir, if you send a note asap to Myra Lemons. We're delighted to host NFMC President Michael Edwards as our national guest. Also performing on the Friday night concert are former Young Artists Mia Hynes and James Cockman III. The formal banquet on Friday night will begin with a procession of all past MFMC presidents and local association presidents. Plan for a fascinating presentation Saturday morning by David Izzard about the process of movie music from beginning to the big screen. Our historian Connie Craig is putting together a small booklet on our 100 year history. We've asked each district to prepare a small presentation on a 20 year span. Find more details about the convention here.

The convention hotel is the Holiday Inn Country Club Plaza. Go ahead and make your reservations now! The rate is $129/night plus tax. This link is applicable for Thursday & Friday night reservations. If you wish to stay additional nights, it is better to call 866-280-6326. The group rate must be booked by April 18th. The group code is MCL or ask for Missouri Federation of Music Clubs.

Convention Registration is due by May 10th.
