Our Vision
We seek to ensure that every public school student in Forsyth County has the opportunity to attend college.
This newsletter is published quarterly to keep you informed of activities, deadlines, and program opportunities. It is your responsibility to meet deadlines and fulfill program requirements. Reading the newsletter and logging in to your Crosby Scholars student portal regularly will keep you apprised of the latest program information.

Grade Advisor Program Is Winding Down
Grade Advisor Meetings
Grade Advisor meetings conclude in May, and scholars should plan to attend the April and May meetings, even if you have not participated in earlier sessions. Scholars are required to register through their Crosby Scholars Student Portal to attend meeting #5 (end-of-year reception). Online registration is not required to attend #4.
Topics covered at the final Grade Advisor meetings for freshman include the importance of getting to know your school counselor, setting SMART goals, and preparing for sophomore year. Jump right into the final two meetings, embrace the opportunity to learn from advisors and peers, and celebrate another year of participating in Crosby Scholars.
Attendance is taken at each meeting and is recorded in the Crosby Scholars office. Students who miss a meeting should sign on to the webinar at the end of each month to review the material that was covered.
Make the Most of Summer Break
Have you begun making plans for summer? Crosby Scholars is happy to offer some suggestions, as follows.
- Volunteer in the community. Choose an activity or agency that truly interests you rather than something that "looks good on my resume".
- Work part-time. Employment will help you build important traits such as responsibility, punctuality, cooperation, and commitment. Remember that ALL work is honorable when performed faithfully and with care.
- Begin/continue a personal fitness routine. This doesn't require an expensive gym membership! Jump rope, walk, run, hike, or bike. Exercise contributes to physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
- Explore summer enrichment program opportunities on the College Foundation of North Carolina's (CFNC) website. Click on the link to go directly to the page.
- Read, read, read. Did we mention that reading can be done along with any of the other opportunities suggested??? Find the branch of the Forsyth County Public Library system closest to you, and ask for assistance from a librarian if you need help choosing books.
Stress Relief
- Exercise. Develop a routine that works for you, whether it is yoga, running, or zumba classes. Choosing activities that interest you increases the likelihood that you will stick with them over time.
- Breathing Exercises. These can be done anywhere, even in the middle of a test when your anxiety threatens to become out of control, thus sabotaging the ability to perform to your potential.
- Music. Choose the genre and/or artist that contributes to feelings of calm and well-being and/or a brighter mood. There is no one "right" type of music for everyone.
- Organization. Chaos leads to anxiety! Maintain a calendar of assignments and due dates, create a clutter-free study area, and clean out your backpack weekly. These are simple ways to introduce calm into your routine.
- Eat Healthfully. Pizza and fries might be go-to foods for teenagers; however, there are much better choices, outlined here, for fueling your mind and body.
- Adequate Sleep. High school students need eight-ten hours of sleep each night, and many fall short of this ideal. Strive to meet this standard as often as possible in order to begin each day refreshed and with renewed energy.
Freshman Year Timelines
Using a yearly timeline can help you remain on track to finish the school year on a strong note. Below are links to great timelines for success and other resources to help you prepare for the remainder of this year and next school year.
