Dear Rose Parents,

We definitely are in the middle of winter weather with these extreme temperatures! I hope your children are warm and cozy at home and your family is finding creative ways to have indoor fun! Our students love going outside, but on these extreme temperature days, indoor recess is a relief for all!

Please read below for important school and district news:

  • I am eager to share the news of two new additions to our Rose staff.

    • Mrs. Jen Ellett, one of the Assistant Principals at Prairie Middle School, will join Rose School as the Assistant Principal until the end of the school year. She will be working with the SAS program, attending IEP and 504 meetings, and supporting all students and staff on these busy days at Rose. Mrs. Ellett has elementary school experience from her tenure in a prior district and looks forward to being in an elementary school environment again. I am excited to welcome Mrs. Ellett and appreciate the additional support that will benefit our Rose community.

  • I also want to share that Ms. Mary Cannek is joining Rose as our new school psychologist. She will be at Rose on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. She has many years of experience as an elementary school psychologist and is eager to get to know the Rose community and support the SST Team.

  • We are still in the process of hiring a school nurse. I will update the school community once we secure a permanent staff member to fill this role. In the meantime, Mrs. Johnson has been incredibly helpful during the transition time.

  • Morning Drop-Off: I know the weather has been a challenge this week, but please continue to follow our procedures to ensure the safety of our students and staff in the morning during drop-off in the parking lot. Doors open at 7:45 AM and students need to be seated by 8:00 AM to be marked on time. We often don’t have much traffic until after 7:50, so I encourage you to be in the lot by 7:45 AM so your child has enough time to unpack and get into the classroom. As a reminder, cars must stay single file at the front of the line and students can unload at multiple points on the front sidewalk, not just at the space in front of the door. Once unloaded, cars should pull all the way up to exit the line. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as I know the mornings can be tough!

  • Kindergarten Round-up: If you have an incoming kindergartener, please join us on Tuesday, February 1st at 6:30 PM at Rose School to learn more about our program. PTO will be joining us as well. This informational meeting is for parents only.

Please also share this information with your neighbors who have children who will be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2022.

If your family is interested in learning more about our unique language programs for incoming kindergarten students, please join Becky Wiegel, Director of District Programs, for incoming kindergarten language program Zoom meeting(s) below:

  • Please join us for an Elementary Parent University, "Supporting Your Elementary Child in Mathematics" on February 8th, from 6:30-7:30 PM. Susan Resnick, author and researcher, will share valuable information about Math in Focus: Singapore Math, our district math program, as well as practical ideas for assisting your child at home. You can attend either in-person, which is open to the first 50 people who register, or watch via Livestream. More information about this event is attached and linked here. Please be sure to register by completing this short form. Thank you for supporting your child's education! Please reach out if you have any questions:

COVID Updates: We have five positive student COVID cases reported at Rose School this week and seven students in quarantine. We have no positive staff cases to report. You can also check the district COVID Dashboard for up-to-date district COVID information if you have additional questions about positive cases and quarantines.

Kind Regards,

Heather Schumacher, Principal
