SUPPORT OUR PRINCIPAL
On behalf of the teachers from Toko School, we would like to express our total support for the union actions undertaken by Principal's, by wearing green on Friday 9th August. We would like to invite students and parents to show their support by following suit.
Among other things, this union action could affect small rural schools significantly.
We feel strongly that rural schools provide a strong identity for our young. Did you realise that at present many rural Principals are paid less than teachers with added responsibilities in urban schools?
Our rural principals carry a much larger responsibility for all staff, students, property and Ministry requirements than many people realise. They are always available 24/7 for the multitude of issues that arise within the school, such as putting the rubbish out early on Monday mornings, rain, hail or snow, fire-alarm call-outs in the middle of the night, sorting out pump-shed and water issues in high-heels etc etc. As a matter of fact, many teachers are declining to accept the stress and workload of rural School Principal positions and stay in a less demanding teaching role for more money.
By wearing green and showing our support for our Principal, we hope to force the government to acknowledge the truly wonderful environments in our rural communities by valuing the work and input from these committed professionals with fair remuneration (for a start)!
PLEASE ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR SUPPORT FOR OUR HARDWORKING PRINCIPALS BY WEARING GREEN FRIDAY AUGUST 9th!!!
From teachers at Toko School.

LEAD Conference

NO YEAR 7 & 8 HOT LUNCHES THIS FRIDAY
Change of Clothes
A reminder for children to bring a change of clothes (and possibly even a towel) if they are going to be playing games like rugby at lunch times. They get very muddy and wet at times and then wear those wet, muddy clothes in class. This isn't good for them or for our classrooms. If they don't have a spare set of clothes, they may be stopped from playing tackle type games if the fields are too muddy.
PTA UPDATE
The BOT and PTA have decided that we will once again go ahead with Calf & Lamb Day.
This year this will be held on Saturday 19th October. In order to ensure that we are well prepared for calves we are asking parents to confirm with the school by the 10th August if their child will be rearing a calf to bring to Calf and Lamb Day. This can be emailed to: office@toko.school.nz Please put calf in the subject line.
