"Music Counts Every Day" at HES - Each morning as we get the day started next week at HES we will be listening to Für Elise. can you guess the composer?
Perhaps one of the most well-known pieces of music in the world, this composition is an inspiration that causes many people to become interested in the piano. The first few notes are instantly recognized by most people who may even be able to play them, and the first section is often taught to students starting out.
The Story Behind Für Elise
Für Elise (which is German for For Elise) was composed around 1810. It is named "Für Elise" because a researcher named Ludwig Nohl said he had seen this name on the original front page which has been missing since then.
People are not sure whether there was an Elise that inspired the composer or whether the name was chosen later by someone else who was making a list of the composer’s works.
The question this week is:
Who composed (wrote) Fur Elise?
There are 2 bubbles/water drops for a correct answer.
The correct answer to last week’s question is:
Scotland, Ireland, and Wales.
Enjoy the music.

Cindy Gushee - 2nd grade Special Education Instructional Assistant /Ms. Cook's long term sub
Hi! My name is Cindy Gushee. I have worked in Harwich for over 18 years. I began work at Harwich Middle School in the Alternative Learning Program working with special needs students. I moved to the elementary school in 2001.
Prior to moving to Cape Cod in 1993. I worked as a High School Home Economics and Health teacher at Narraguagus High School in Harrington, ME. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics Education from the University of Maine and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education with Special Needs from Wheelock College. I am currently the SPED Teaching Assistant in second grade but have also worked in the Integrated Preschool, the DGP Program, and in 3rd grade.
For a number of years I was co-advisor for the Harwich High School Interact Club and we did a number of community service projects and traveled internationally to over 20 countries.
Tammy Tansey- Kdg Instructional Assistant
I have been married for 23 years, and both my girls have gone through Harwich schools. My oldest daughter Sadie is 23 and my youngest Hannah is 21.
My love for working with kids started very young; at 10 I was babysitting for everyone it seemed like in the town of Harwich and Dennis. I have lived in Harwich since I was 14, and before that Dennis.
I love to craft and be creative, making up games to making home made cards.
My newfound love is Essential oils by Young Living. I have been using oils for almost a year now and it has been a wonderful thing for me and my family.
Searching for and collecting sea glass is one of my favorite pastimes in the summer, along with kayaking and paddle boarding.

2nd Grade Destination Imagination (DI) Team shines!
We are so proud of our 2nd grade DI team that performed with great success at the local tournament, held at DY High School last Saturday. The team spent the past ten weeks rising to the challenge to "create a story involving an emergency, and how your team can use a complex machine to solve the emergency." Students have been studying about simple machines, and how to combine them to create complex machines. Along the way they have been developing teamwork skills, as well as leadership, compromise, and quick thinking.
What a great group of fourteen students who have worked so hard - congratulations!
The team would also like to thank the PTO for providing the funding for their team.
Please send positive wishes for our 3/4 grade team, which will be competing tomorrow(Saturday) in Stoughton.
