Henry Happenings

Principal Message
Dear Henry Families,
We hope you are enjoying this Labor Day with your families. This week we welcome you to visit with your child's classroom teacher during curriculum night. See dates and times below. This is an important night where you will learn about the academics your child will learn this year. It also allows you to spend more time with your child's teacher and ask questions. The partnership between parents and teachers is such an important relationship. These curriculum nights help to strengthen that partnership. We hope to see you there!
Beginning this week, approved volunteers and visitors are allowed to enter Henry. Our vestibule is finished, and although we still have some updates to the office, we are able to securely allow entry. Visitors are allowed at lunch without an appointment, however, please keep in mind that we are using every table and most chairs during lunch shifts. We do not have a separate table for you to sit with your child, so you will sit at one of the chairs available with your child's classroom. In order to visit for lunch, the visitor must be listed on Infinite Campus and present identification upon entry. Any other type of visit must be scheduled.
Please remember, you must show identification at all times even when picking up your child. If you are dropping off items, please let the office staff know and then leave the item in the vestibule labeled with your child's name. Post it notes and pens are available to you in the vestibule. One of our office staff will then deliver the item to your child.
For arrival, please note, the school crosswalks are supervised from 8:50 a.m. to 9:05. Families should work with their children to ensure they arrive at the crosswalk between these supervised times.
As always, if you have any questions please let me know.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jodi Oliver
Principal
Henry Elementary

Summer Reading
For students that participated in the Henry Summer Reading Program, completed reading forms are due by September 16. Please tally the total minutes read and include a parent signature verifying the number of minutes and book titles. Completed and signed forms should be returned to Mrs. Goyal in the library. We can't wait to see how many readers hit a homerun this summer!

Volunteer Opportunities
We hope you have gotten back in the swing of things this school year. We are so excited to be able to get back into Henry and do more things to help out. That also means there are more volunteer opportunities than there have been the past several years. Volunteers are a critical element at Henry and there is something for everyone. We have weekend activities, evening activities, and items during the day. There are items for people who like to organize and plan and items for those who just like to show up and do. Please take a minute to look and see what you would like to be involved with. https://forms.gle/WZvxa4BkzxN29qmf9 And thank you to those who have already jumped in and volunteered. Our first 2 events (Breakfast for the teachers and Welcome Breakfast) were organized by volunteers who hadn't been in that position before and they did it flawlessly. Don't hesitate to jump into a volunteer slot. Thank you in advance!
Steps to become a Volunteer can be found here - https://www.parkwayschools.net/domain/783 You need to take this step if you plan on going on any field trips with your child, volunteer with Reader In Me during the day, Help out in the Library, do 5th grade activities in the Spring, or do any other activities that involve contact with students when you are unsupervised by teachers.
Reminder From PTO: Volunteer for Fall and Spring Classroom Parties
Our Fall and Spring parties at Henry would not be possible without volunteer help! Please consider helping by signing up as a room parent to plan and lead the parties or as a party volunteer to help at the party. We need two room parents per class and additional party volunteers. School Chromebook Reminders
As we begin the school year, please take a moment to review the following policies and procedures regarding your student’s Parkway issued Chromebook.
Chromebooks are the property of the Parkway School District and should be kept in the same condition as when originally assigned to the student. Students should not remove their protective Gumdrop case from their Chromebook for any reason. The case is designed to prevent severe damage, so it’s very important that the device remains in its case. Although these devices are assigned to students, they remain the property of the Parkway School District and should NOT be personalized with stickers, decals, drawings, etc.
Parkway is changing the way we support our Chromebook fleet. Parents will no longer register for insurance. Instead, Parkway will be moving to a per-incident, fines-based model for repairs related to Chromebook damage. These fines will only apply to the Chromebooks that will be traveling with the students, grades 3-12. Students in grades K-2 will leave their devices at school unless otherwise directed by school administration. Chromebook fines will be assessed for damage that is not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty (i.e. broken screens, damaged keyboards, broken/missing case, missing/damaged charger, etc.). Rycor, Parkway’s online payment processing system, will be used to record and collect all Chromebook related fines.
The amount of the fine will vary depending on the total cost of the parts needed to repair the Chromebook.
Minor repairs ($25 fine) - Repairs that require parts valued under $200
Major repairs ($50 fine) - Repairs that require parts valued over $200
