Happy Friday Mustangs!
It was a great week @AMS! We had our first Positive Behavior Incentive and Supports (PBIS) after school event this past Wednesday. It was a huge success! Students with one or less tardys and no discipline referrals for the previous week were invited to attend this event. We will be hosting more PBIS events throughout the year to celebrate and recognize students making good choices in school.
The AMS PTO met this week and celebrated the success of our Halloween fundraiser! The success of the Halloween event will help the PTO with supporting students and building culture. Our next meeting will be Dec. 8th @ 7pm in the Media Center.
Don’t forget about the ½ day on Tuesday! Dismissal is at 11:07 am and there is no school Wednesday through Friday next week. Please enjoy the Holiday and stay safe! If your student is not feeling well upon returning to school on November 29th, please keep them home to keep everyone safe in school.
Card marking is coming soon! Parents, please make sure your student is making up any missing assignments. If your student has missing work due to a quarantine or excused medical absence; please know that the AMS teachers will work with your student(s).
We will offer extensions to allow students the opportunity to complete any work missed from quarantine so they can improve their grade if they choose to do so. In some cases, a student may receive an “I” on their report card indicating an Incomplete Grade. This means we are allowing your student up until Dec. 10th to make up any assignments or assessments to boost their grade. This will only apply to absences due to quarantine or medically excused absences. After Dec. 10th, the grade will be entered into MiStar to finalize the report card.
One last reminder…The annual tradition of Gift of Giving is under way! Please see below for more information! This is a great cause that benefits AVONDALE Families!
Have a great Holiday!
With AMS Pride!
Jason Ohrt
Proud Principal of Avondale Middle School

$2 FOR TUNES
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 23-sponsored by LINKS
The LINKS program is a peer support program where students receive training that will allow them to facilitate positive outcomes in the school experience of a peer with specific learning and/or social needs. Fundraising opportunities allow for the peer program to host social gatherings where students can work together to practice skills and build relationships with each other. It also allows the program to obtain resources for training opportunities.

STEM 8 Med Detectives Crack the Case
A crime scene was investigated and explored by STEM 8 Medical Detectives this week. A mock scene was created for students to show their detective skills learned throughout the trimester. Students were challenged to piece together the “who stole the technology” mystery using trace fingerprint, footprint, and DNA evidence analysis and problem solving strategies learned as we discussed mysteries of human diseases and the human body. Students sorted through witness statements, looked for physical evidence and pieced together the mystery with the help of Mrs. Byrne. The crime was cracked and the “guilty” teacher was caught. We would like to thank the Auburn Hills Police Department for their donations to help us create this crime scene using real evidence gathering techniques at school!
First to crack case: 3rd hour found Mrs. Richard guilty, Bella Quinn and Lauren Peterson
6th hour found Mrs. Roth guilty: Addie Quinn and Christine Nguyen

248.341.5900Students Leaving Early
Recently, we have had students being called out a few minutes before the release bell. This increase in call volume and disruption in classes has become quite disruptive. We always want to respect parents requests to have their child released from school, however for the safety of students, and to minimize disruption, we will not be releasing students early after 2:15pm, they will be released at 2:46pm.
The procedure for calling your student out early is:
Call the attendance line (248-537-6310) before 11am and leave a message stating the following: name of your student, time of pickup, make/model/color of pick up vehicle
Safe Ed will walk students to the vehicle.
Or call the main office(248-537-6300) between 11am-2:10pm. Please leave a message if you cannot get through, the secretaries monitor their email and will get the message. This way we can give students a pass in advance and have them ready. We understand emergencies come up and will handle on a case by case basis.
We appreciate your cooperation with this policy.
Drop Off/Pick Up Update
Thank you!
