Welcome Back for the New Year
Hello, APS Family!
Glad to be back for the second half of the year. Hopefully, you had a relaxing break and are refreshed and ready to dig in for the days ahead. There are some resources I ran across over break that I wanted to share with you.
Happy New Year!

Exploring a Route Toward Adoption of the Common Core - Christopher Lehman
Exploring a Route Toward Implementation of the Common Core
Please, if you get the chance, althought it's long, the talk given by Chris Lehman at the University of Wisconsin, Madison is a great inspirational message. Remaining positive as we move forward and implement the Common Core is key. There are other positive ideas Chris shares. For more info about the background on this video, click this link. As a reminder, you won't be able to view the video at school as it's a youtube video.
FIPing Your School
Here is another inspiring article, by Virginia Ressa on using formative assessment practices to inform instruction, on resolving to be a life-long learner. https://fipyourschoolohio.squarespace.com/blog/2013/12/26/resolve-to-be-a-learner
Joy Jars
Here's a short snippet from the blog "Learning Beyond the Book". The author shares the idea of creating Joy Jars:
Take a jar – a simple canning jar or something more creative and dramatic- and add little slips of paper to it of all the awesome moments that happen in your life. Little things that made you laugh, smile, jump for joy. Great things you want to remember. Just write it down and put it in the jar. Then on New Year’s Eve 2014, dump out and read all of the great things that made 2014 the best year yet.
