Eighth Grade Celebration
Parents are invited to attend the ceremony. Please keep in mind parking availability at CGMS in planning your arrival time. Additionally, parents will be asked to turn off all cell phones to avoid distractions during our recognitions and awards.
Students are NOT required to attend the ceremony in order to be promoted. Parents make pick up report cards from the front office AFTER 1 pm.
The gym will be open to parents by 8:15 that morning.
As you arrive, PLEASE DO NOT SIT IN ANY OF THE CHAIRS ON THE GYM FLOOR. THESE ARE RESERVED FOR STUDENTS AND FACULTY FOR THE PROGRAM.
Immediately following the ceremony, eighth grade students will report to their homeroom to collect report cards and exam results.
Students will then have the opportunity to check out with their parent/guardian. This will not count against students as early check out since it is an early release day.
Eighth Grade Breakfast
It is important that students are on time to school on this date so that we can get all students breakfast and prepare for the ceremony after.
Rehearsal - June 8
Expectations for Student Dress
Girls: NO strapless, NO backless, NO revealing neck-lines, NO short dresses (no more than 3” above the knee). Girls MUST have a wrap, shrug or jacket on at all times if spaghetti strap styles are worn. A wrap must be secured in a manner that will allow for it to cover the shoulders and stay in place throughout the 8th Grade Social. An age appropriate party dress is suitable. NO heels can be worn in the gym. If girls attend the 8th Grade Ceremony wearing heels, they will have to take them off prior to entry of the gym.
Boys: NO jeans, shorts or t-shirts, NO sandals. Polo style collar or dress shirt with slacks are appropriate. Jacket and tie are also appropriate, but optional.
Any student who is not appropriately dressed will be asked to arrange for a change of clothes. If a change of clothes is not available, the student will not be allowed to participate in the Eighth Grade Ceremony. School administrators will make the final decision in regards to the appropriateness of dress. If students are uncertain about the appropriateness of dress prior to the event, administrators may be asked to preview for approval.
Reminders of Expectations
Parents - please make sure that cell phones are on SILENT throughout the ceremony. You are welcome to take photos throughout. Also, while this is NOT a graduation ceremony, it is a formal event. Please model appropriate behavior for your child and our students.
