Letter From Our President
Hello MCEA Members,
We are excited to be half way through the school year! A lot happened in the first semester, including a new school board, our annual school board dinner, school board meetings, the Time to Learn, Time to Teach campaign, Homecoming, and the Problem Solving Committee. We want to thank all of the members who helped with any of these events and committees. Your hard work is appreciated! We would also like to thank those of you who have taken time out of your busy day to attend the school board meetings. If you have not attended a school board meeting yet, please consider attending one next semester. It is important that the school board sees our presence at these meetings. And, whether or not you are attending the meetings, don’t forget to wear your MCEA t-shirt on school board meeting days with professional attire.
Second semester is going to be just as busy, especially since negotiations start in February. The MCEA executive board wants to do our best to represent the association members in this process. You should be receiving a survey from your building representative via e-mail asking you to give input on the current status of the district. We appreciate and value your feedback and want to use this information to best represent you.
There will also be an all-member meeting on January 12 starting at 4:00. The place is still to be determined. The Vice-President of the Colorado Education Association (CEA), Amie Baca, will be here for the meeting. She will share the going-ons with CEA and the state.
We would like to thank you for your work and dedication to the profession and your continued support of MCEA. We have a stronger voice when we stand united. We hope you have a wonderful, relaxing, well-deserved break.

Board Meetings Matter
With our new school board in place, this is a great time to show the board just how much we care about the decisions they make. There are two options for those who want to attend. At the work session, the board discusses policies and district happenings, often learning more about the items on which they will vote during their meeting. At the board meeting, the board hears public comment, reports from various groups and buildings, and often votes on key issues affecting the district. Staff members and the public are welcome to either of these meetings.
In December, the meetings are happening on Monday, December 14. The work session begins at 3:30 at the district office. The board meeting will start at 6:30 at the district office. Please review the agenda items sent to you by your secretary for more information.
A Survey is on the Way
Watch your email for a survey from the Problem Solving Committee. This committee has taken the place of our negotiations team, and they now meet with board members and administrators monthly to address the needs of the district. The survey will enable the committee to prioritize issues and concerns members have, so they can more effectively represent all of us as they do their work. See your building AR if you have questions.
