A Message from Mrs. Caudill
Can you believe it's been two years?! Two years?! It all seems like it's gone by so quickly and seemed neverending at the same time. While I know we have all had our share of negatives in the last two years, I am reflective of all the positives that I have seen. I have seen teacher instructing and students learning in ways I would have never thought of. I have seen student independence around technology-related learning that probably would not have happened for another 5 years without the "help" of the pandemic. I have seen compassion, understanding and drive from students, teachers and parents that makes me smile uncontrollably.
I am excited for what the future holds, I am excited to see students grow and learn. I am excited to see how our teachers can continue to use their new found skills. I am excited to see what can be accomplished in the next two years. We have an amazing future ahead of us.
Stay Well,
Devon Caudill

Spring STudent-Led Conferences
Time is quickly approaching for our spring student-led conferences. This time of the year is an exciting way for your child to show how he/she has grown as a learner. Students will present to you their leadership notebook and share examples of their learning success and growth in reading, writing, math, and other areas of their choice. Student-led conferences are in accordance with our Leader in Me practices. The classroom teacher will be present in the room and available for brief questions.
Please view the sign up and find a convenient time for you and your child to attend. We are excited to have you participate in a conversation that encourages your child to explain his/her learning, possible challenges, and how they feel about the progress they have made so far this school year.
Please understand that placements for 2022-2023 will not be discussed at this time. This includes ALPS placement, middle school placement, including Advanced Math and Academic Resource. For more information about your questions, please see the Advanced Programming Link.
We look forward to this wonderful opportunity for your child to be a leader and also be the owner of his/her learning. We hope you enjoy this special time to explore your child’s growth throughout this school year!

GUEST AUTHOR - Alan St. Jean
Author Alan St. Jean visited each classroom this week for March is Reading Month. His presentations taught students about how he always wanted to be an author but didn't write his first book until he was 40 years old. He explained how great books have conflict, mystery, strong characters and heart. Sharing his experiences about writing music and books, editing and publishing then becoming his own publisher was relatable for our upper elementary students because they too have adjusted and added to their writing to improve their story! And for our lower elementary students, he explained how he created the characters in Spooky Mooky and kept working with his illustrators to revise the way the characters looked. He definitely evoked lots of laughs and giggles. His website houses several video books and music videos. alanstjean.com

READING TIPS FOR FAMILIES
In celebration of reading month and lifelong reading each week we will be sharing tips for parents and guardians to help grow the readers in your own families, no matter the age.
This week’s focus: How Can I Help My Child PICK a Good Book?
We hear this question quite a bit in elementary school. We hear it from families of readers of all ages and stages. Growing lifelong readers is not really about a specific reading level. It is about empowering our young readers with the skills and habits to choose books that are the right fit for them.
An easy way to remember is to remember: P.I.C.K.
P - Purpose
I - Interest
C - Comprehend
K - Know Words
This short video briefly explains these 4 tips. Think about how you choose your reading materials, especially the ones you choose for fun.

MARCH FOCUS: TRUSTWORTHY! HABIT 6: SYNERGIZE!
What this means: Working together is better. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
“I get along well with other people and work well in groups.”
“I value the strengths of others and allow myself to learn from them.”
“I know that working together as a team we can get more done and come up with better solutions than we could alone.”
“I seek out other people’s ideas to solve problems.”
How can I do this in my life?
With your children, choose a problem you may have (like curfew or completing tasks). Use the Synergy Action Plan to summarize your child's solution and your solution: (1) define the problem, (2) share your views, (3) think of solutions, (4) choose the best solution together. See if you can reach a better solution (The High Way) than either of you could come up with alone.
